Manipur thrashes Delhi as Natl School Games begins

Imphal, December 14 2011: The 57th National Inter School Games Meet-2011 has kick started today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex with 642 participants from 21 states of the country.

Chief Minister O Ibobi who graced the opening function as Chief Guest in his speech said that Manipur has many indigenous games for whom a Manipuri can proud of.

Manipur has strong connection with games and sports since times immemorial.

He said that the world famous Polo is a gift of Manipur to the people of the world.

After Sagol Kangjei, the traditional games of Manipur Thang-Ta has now come up to national level.

It is a matter of pride that the Thang-Ta a traditional games of Manipur is being included in the National School Games for the first time.

Sports Minister DD Thaisii who presided over the function said that games and sports is playing a major role in uniting many communities since there is no discrimination of caste, creed, religion or race in games and sports.

The movement of sports was very low in the state in past.

However after the National Games were held in the state and many infrastructures were developed as part of hosting the National Games has led to the present situation of games ans sports in the state.

President, Manipur Olympic Association MLA Bijoy Koijam also attended the opening ceremony as Guest of honour.

Manipur U-17 girls football team stamped its class in the inaugural day of the 57th Edition of the National Inter School Games Meet - 2011 today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, thrashing Delhi 5-0 in its first league match.

Department Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur under the aegis of Federation of School Games India is hosting the U-17, U-14 boys and girls football and Thang-Ta events for boys and girls as part of the meet.

In the first U-17 girls football match Manipur dominated the Delhi girls right from the start opening its account in the 25th minute of the match through Th Romi.

She added another brace in the 28th minute of the match increasing the goal margin to 2 .

S Jinnia added two more goals in the 34th and 35th minute while Th Purnima scored one in the 55th minute to make it 5-0 .

Earlier in a keenly contested group A league match, Tamil Nadu beat Maharashtra 2-1 .

Aishwarya Baladure of Maharashtra drew first blood in the 34th minute of the match.

The first half concluded 1-0 in favour of Maharashtra.

In the second half, R Saranya Dev of Tamil Nadu scored the equaliser in the 51st minute of the match.

The second goal of Tamil Nadu scored by S Geethanjali in the 56th minute sealed the fate of the match as no players of Maharashtra could scored another goal against Tamil Nadu.

Shivani of Maharahstra and R Saranya Dev of Tamil Nadu were issued a yellow card each by the centre referee for their unsporting behaviour during the match.

In a Group B league match, Goa thrashed Punjab with 11 goals.

Colaco Nevilla of Goa scored four goals in the 7th, 13th, 31st and 38th minutes of the match.

V Fernandes scored three goals in the 14th, 49th and 58th minutes.

Ansiva Vaj also scored two goals in the 22nd and 60th minutes of the match while Anuska Viegas and V D'souza scored one each in the 47th and 54th minutes.

In another Group D league match, Nagaland defeated a scoreless Madhya Pradesh with 12 goals.

Thenouruso of Nagaland scored five goals in the 1st, 2nd, 13th, 14th and 53rd minutes of the match.

Laitinglam scored two goals in the 9th and 49th minutes of the match.

Ketholenou also scored two goals in the 35th and 48th minutes while Ruth, Kezevinou and Sedevinou also scored one goal each in the 7th, 22nd and 55th minutes of the match.

In U-14 girls category, Chandigarh beat Tamil Nadu 1-0 in a Group A league match played today.

The solitary goal was scored by Anjali Lallan of Chandigarh in the 26th minute of the match.

Deepika of Chandigarh was issued a yellow card for her unsporting Behaviour.

In a Group B league match, Maharashtra beat Punjab 3-2.Sryshti Ayyar of Maharashtra scored two goals in the 36th and 30th minutes and her teammate Soni Telange scored one goal in the 58th minute.

On the other hand, the two goals of Punjab were scored by Manpreet Kaur in the 21st and 29th minutes.

Later in a Group C league match, Mizoram thrashed Gujarat by 12 goals.

F Lalmuawpull of Mizoram scored four goals in the 4th, 6th, 11th and 35th minutes of the match.

H Lalremruati also scored four goals in the 15th, 27th, 38th and 43rd minutes.

Vanlalduati scored two goals in the 29th and 45th minutes while her teammate Lalhriattiri and F Lalramnghaki scored one each in the 7th and 50th minutes of the match.

Meanwhile a confident Madhya Pradesh held dominant Andhra Pradesh 1-1 in a Group D league match today.

From time to time, Andhra Pradesh players dominated the match and tried to score goals against their opponents.

However, they were unable to find a chance to score goal since Madhya Pradesh girls were defending and on the same time were on the look out for opportunities to sneak in to strike.

The first half concluded in a scoreless draw.

However in the second half, Andhra Pradesh got their chance to score a goal in the 45th minute which was successfully turned into a goal by B Revaphi.

Short of one goal, Madhya Pradesh did not lose their hopes and tried their best to equalize.

They succeeded in their in the 60th minute of the match when the match was about to come to an end and held Andhra Pradesh in 1-1 .

Watmastam Shameena of Andhra Pradesh was issued a yellow card for her unsporting behaviour during the match.
