Imphal, January 13 2018:
Two exhibition football matches would be played between a Manipuri women team and women teams of Myanmar's Sagaing and Mandalay regions at Mandalay on January 27 and 28, said convenor of the State Level Committee for Operationalisation of Act East Policy RK Shivchandra.
The exhibition matches would be played in reciprocation to a similar match played during the Manipur Sangai Festival at Imphal in November last year.
The Manipur team is invited by the Government of Myanmar and they would play their first exhibition match against Sagaing team on January 27 followed by another match against Mandalay team on January 28, said Shivchandra.
Following Chief Minister N Biren's initiative to boost bilateral trade between India and Myanmar through Manipur who also attended a business summit at Yangon recently, a 22-member business delegation of the State would hold a conference with their Myanmarese counterparts on January 29 at Mandalay where the Mandalay Chief Minister would also be present.
The same delegates would hold another meeting with Sagaing business barons on January 30 and it would also be attended by the Sagaing Chief Minister, Shivchandra said.
A 59-member delegation of Manipur would leave Imphal on January 24 for Mandalay.
Out of them, 24 are businessmen while the remaining 35 are players and officials, he informed.
The delegates include Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip, MLAs P Brojen, Y Surchandra and L Susindro.
As the Union Cabinet has approved the land border crossing agreement between India and Myanmar, movement between Imphal and Mandalay would be quite hassle free after January, he added.
