Manipuri boxer Sarjubala ensures medal for India at Asian Women's Boxing Championship

Ace Manipuri boxer Sarjubala Shamjetsabam has guaranteed India a medal at the Asian Women's Boxing Championship in Wulanchabu, China by thrashing Turlubayeva Alina of Kazakhstan in the Quarter Finals on Day 3 of the championship.
She has now entered the 48kg semi-finals at the Championships.
On day two, Sarjubala had to beat Thai boxer who was also a medallist in World Championships like her and overcame a tough first 1st round opponent.
Reports said that Sarjubala and Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat delivered one of the best performances in the second competition day in Wulanchabu.
Both boxers were medallist in the last edition of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and among the bests in the world.
Sarjubala worked from closer distance and her hooks and quick combinations were successful in the narrow bout.
The final scoring was split decision to Sarjubala Shamjetsabam Devi who secured India's first triumph in Wulanchabu.
Kazakhstan's AIBA Women's Youth World Champion Gaukhar Yermekbay delivered better performance than her teammate Nurshayeva and the 20-year-old boxer advanced to the semi-finals and bagged a guaranteed medal in Wulanchabu.
The young Kazakh boxer defeated India's Monica Saun who replaced strong Neetu Chahal in the national team.
