33rd National taekwondo begins

Young martial artistes gave Chhatisgarh a bright start in the 33rd National Championship with three top podium finishes on the opening day of the championship at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium today.
Host Manipur ended the day on one gold won by Sh Gandhi Meitei in Senior Male Fin category, two silver medals provided by Th Pusparani Devi (female Pee Wee Fly) and S Rikison (male Pee Wee Fin), and a bronze fetched by Aribam Bicky as joint third in sub-junior male fin event.
The championship hosted by Taekwondo Federation of Manipur is being competed by 505 players, including 147 females, from 13 States.
The opening day also saw Uttarakhand bag two gold, a silver and one bronze medal.
Opening ceremony of the three-day championship was held with PHE Minister I Hemochandra Singh and event host president N Momon Singh as the chief guest and functional president respectively while Parliamentary Secretary for YAS M Prithviraj Singh and Director (IPR) W Rajan Singh were the guests of honour.
