1st North East Olympic Games : State shuttlers shine with 4 gold medals

State badminton players had a great day out today as they collected 4 gold and 1 bronze medal in the Badminton events of the 1st North East Olympic Games, being organised by Manipur Olympic Association under the aegis of North East Olympic Association here in Imphal.
Ksh Maheshwari Devi of Manipur opened the gold medal account today in the badminton competition beating Laa Yajum of Arunachal Pradesh 21-19, 21-18 in the women's final while Bidyasagar Salam added another gold medal with an easy 21-10, 21-8 win over Hirak Jyoti Neog of Assam in the men's singles final.
Manipur's M Somibala Devi and N Purnima Devi overcame Pinky Karki and Taring Yania of Arunachal Pradesh 21-19, 21-15 to fetch the women's doubles gold while L Sunilkumar and Ankita Naorem won the mixed doubles gold with a win over Mizoram pair in the final.
Other events on Day 4
Shooting
Niluta Prasad of Assam claimed the gold medal in the men's individual 10 m Air Rifle event with a total of 594 points while his compatriot Ayush Mishra collected the silver medal with a total 581 points to give Assam a fresh start on Day 4.Manipur's Rohen however to claim the bronze medal shooting 579 points.
In the women's individual 10 m Air Rifle event, Naini Devi of Assam clinched the gold medal shooting 585 points while her compatriot Nisha Veisha scored 582 points to win the silver.
Manipur shooter Shamurailatpam Tulky got the bronze medal in this event scoring 581 points.
Assam continued to enjoy the lead in the shooting as the title of 10 m Air Pistol individual event for men went to Ambrish Bharatwaj of Assam who scored 564 points.
Nagaland's Vivas Bishwas who gathered 560 points won the silver while Manipur's Usham Christopher won the bronze medal shooting 558 points.
Sangita Hanshu of Assam won the women's individual 10 m Air Pistol gold scoring 549 points while Bisiya Singh of the same State clinched the silver with a total 548 points.
Manipur's Silvia Loukrakpam claimed the bronze medal in this event with a total score of 547 points.
In the 10 m Air Pistol team competition, Assam won the men's gold medal with a total of 1639 points while Manipur's team comprising of Khagemba Loukrakpam, Huidrom Ajoy and Usham Christopher managed 1650 points to win the silver.
Meghalaya men's team got the bronze medal with a total of 1592 points.
Women's 10 m Air Pistol team title went to Assam which scored 1639 points in total while Manipur's team of Gurumayum Gensina, Silvia Loukrakpam and Duni Khaidem scored a total of 1595 points to bag the silver medal.
Athletics
Nagaland's Tsuchoi T took the 10,000 m women's race title recording a time of 40 minutes 48.30 seconds while Arunachal Pradesh's Yabang Tali took 42:22.41 seconds to claim the silver medal today.
Sikkim's Anjuly Subba was able to claim the bronze medal with a time of 44:12.30 seconds.
In the men's 10,000 m race, Manipur's Kh Roshan fetched the gold medal with the best time of 33:05.09 seconds while Mudang Oma of Arunchal Pradesh took 33:12.02 seconds to win the silver medal.
Manipur's Kh Romajit clocked 33:37.46 to claim the bronze medal in this event.
In the women's 400 m race, Happy Gogoi of Assam won the gold medal with a time of 59.25 second while Manipur's Th Banina (1:02.48) and Denim Baruah of Assam (1:09.92) claimed the silver and the bronze medal respectively.
Hemon Kherketa of Assam notched up the 400 m race gold recording 49.52 seconds while his compatriot took 50.27 sec to win the silver medal.
Amarjit Gowala of Tripura won the bronze medal in this event.
In the high jump event for men, Assam's Sk Wazid jumped 1.87 m to win the gold medal while his compatriot Sk Zayed Ahmed won the silver medal with the same height.
Meghalaya's Albinus Rongpeit made a 1.84 m jump to win the bronze medal.
In the 4*400 Relay women's final, Assam team took 4:08.04 seconds to win the gold medal while Manipur's team comprising of N Chaoba, T Rusia, H Bhumeshwori and Th Babina claimed the silver medal with a time of 4:12.79 seconds.
Nagaland team won the bronze medal by taking 4:18.19 seconds.
In the 4*400 men's final, Assam were able to seal the gold medal by completing the course in 3:25.25 seconds while Manipur's Sanajaoba, N Konungjao, Ziaul Haque and RK Dayananda took 3:28:02 seconds to finish with the silver medal.
Maghalaya team won the bronze medal with a time of 3:31.92 seconds.
Taekwondo
Manipur's M Sanahal added a gold to State tally beating Tadar Take of Arunachal Pradesh in the 58-63 kg below final while Nagaland and Assam won the bronze medals.
In the 53 kg final event, Tasin Begum of Assam won the gold beating Soni Nalo of Arunachal Pradesh in the final.
Nagaland and Manipur claimed the bronze medals in this event.
Archery
Archery has been a stronghold for Manipur so far at the games as State archers have amassed 12 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medal till the end of Day 4.Assamese archers are the still the closest competitor with a total of 6 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
M Sunder Singh opened the gold medal account today with a total 6 score in the men's individual Olympic Round event while Th Langamba who shot 4 points claimed the silver medal.
Assam's Didwm Basumatary bagged the bronze medal in this event.
P Soniya and Ch Debiya of Manipur scored 6 and 2 points each in the women's individual Olympic Round final to win the gold and the silver medal respectively while Assam's Pallabi Das claimed the bronze medal.
Manipur's Ramakanta Sharma added another gold in men's individual men Olympic round event shooting 145 points while Meghalaya Archers claimed the silver and the bronze medals.
In the women's individual Olympic Round event, Manipur's Lily Chanu Paonam (141), Sh Manorama (140) and Th Isembi (142) won the gold, silver and the bronze medals respectively.
In the Olympic team event State team comprising of G Robert Sharma, Sh Ramakanta Sharma, M Bikram Singh and P Jagat Singh won the gold medal shooting 227 points while Meghalaya team (223) and Tripura team (226) finished with the silver and the bronze medal.
Manipur's team of Sh Manorama, Lily Chanu, Th Ishembi and M Rupan Devi scored 225 points to win the gold medal while Arunachal Pradesh (210) and Assam (204) won the silver and the bronze medal respectively.
Manipur men's and women's recurve team also won silver medal today the State teams won the gold medal in the compound and Indian round events.
Wushu
Manipur Wushu players emerged the best among all North Eastern States players as they managed 28 gold 9 silver and 2 bronze medals out of State's total 77 gold 45 silver and 33 bronze medals.
