Elite boxing: Four state pugilists in QFs

Four state boxers made it to the quarterfinals at the 5th Elite Women's National Boxing Championships at St Josephs International School in Hisar, Haryana, on Sunday.
Meneka Ningthoujam, Sanamacha Thokchom, Ashalata Huiningshumbam and Alena Thounaojam are within touching distance of winning at least bronze medals following their pre-quarterfinal results.
Meneka Ningthoujam won a first-round RSC verdict, fighting against Jhanvi Shah of Gujarat in the 60-63kg category, for her place in the quarterfinals.
Sanamacha Thokchom too put up an impressive show by achieving a RSC decision in the second round in her 70-75kg pre-quarterfinal bout against Chirang Chouhan of Rajasthan.
Ashalata Huiningshumbam, on the other hand, outclassed Shilpa Yadav of Uttar Pradesh to enter the 45-48kg quarterfinals with a 5-0 verdict.
Alena Thounaojam received a walkover into the last eight.
Meanwhile, Loidang Moi-rangthem failed to advance after losing out to Neha of Haryana in their +81kg pre-quarterfinal bout.
