Imphal, February 20 2014 :
Extracting turns and keeping a fine line and length the spinner duo of ESU, Sivananda and Shankar weaved magic with the ball to bowl out WCA for 82 runs in the allotted 30 overs to win the match by 6 wickets.
Winning the toss, WCA opted to bat and with the pitch offering a lot of turn and bounce, the spinner duo of ESU, Sivananda and Shankar scalped four wickets each to restrict WCA at 82 runs.
Surjit and Rajiv of ESU chipped in with one wicket apiece to destroy the batting of WCA.
So dominating were the bowlers of ESU that only Mydon of WCA could put up a semblance of a fight compiling a patient 28 runs off 59 balls to lend some respectability to their score.
Set a modest target of 83 runs, Sivananda again contributed with the bat as well leading the charge with a well made 26 runs off 43 balls.
Sivananda was ably assisted by Shankar who scored 18 runs off 38 balls followed by Roshan with 17 runs off 47 balls.
For WCA, Boy led the charge with 3 wickets and Ranjan chipped in with 1 wicket.
Though the WCA bowlers played their hearts out and managed to check the runs of flow to a certain extent, their total proved to be too small to defend ultimately.
ESU players recognising the need of the hour did not go in for any reckless shots and were satisfied with punishing only the loose balls and stealing the quick ones and twos to keep the score board ticking.
For his haul of 4 wickets and 26 runs, Sivananda of ESU walked away with the man of the match award.
This was the 24th match of the tournament with Jasobanta and Kenjit doing the umpiring duty.
Tomorrow PCC (Mayai Koibi will take on YWC (Patsoi) .
The tournament is organised by the Manipur Cricket Association and is being held at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangshangbam.
