61st CC Meet : KPFC stop resurgent AFC with 7-5 win; enter pre-quarter final

Imphal, March 14 2019: Kha Potsangbam Football Club (KPFC), Bishnupur booked a berth in the pre-quarterfinal of the 61st Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament with a decisive 7-5 win over Athletic and Football Club (AFC), Thoubal through kick from penalty mark after both the team were level at 3-3 goals at the end of the regular time today at Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak, which is organised by All Manipur Football Association.

S Sabi Singh, Th Manichandra Singh and N Radhakanta Singh (own goal) - all found the back of the net for KPFC at the end of the regular time while Md Sahidur Rahaman, M Oken Singh and Th Premjit of AFC also found the back of the net.

However, KPFC raced through to the pre-quarter final courtesy to Md Imran Khan, O Premchand Singh, S Kaphoi Singh and Khulakpamarie who have managed to convert their kicks from penalty mark into goals while Th Premjit and N Radhakanta Singh were the successful goal scorer for AFC.

Earlier, KPFC pressed forward from the first whistle, looking to seize the initiative from the get go but defenders of AFC hold their ground firm and successfully thwarted all the attempts in the first 34 minutes.

However, S Sabi Singh put KPFC into the lead in the 35th minute which was doubled in the 42nd minute, thanks to Th Manichandra Singh who seized on an opportunity in the form of a loose ball near the box and slot it past the keeper.

The first half ended with the score reading 2-0 in favour of KPFC.

After the changeover, KPFC got lucky again as its third goal came though an own goal in the 69th minute which was huge mistake committed by N Radhakanta Singh, which has put KPFC in the lead with 3-0 goals.

However, AFC changed the flavour of the match when Md Sahidur Rahaman scored a goal in the 73rd minute which has boosted other players to join him in mounting more pressure on KPFC which gave dividend in the form of two goals scored by M Oken Singh and Th Premjit in the 76th and 89th minute to level the goal parity at 3-3 at the end of the normal time.

The match was then decided in penalty shootout.

S Kaphei Singh (73') and S Sabi Singh (87') of KPFC were yellow carded by the referee.

North Imphal Sporting Association, Thangmeiband will lock horns with UKB Churachandpur tomorrow at 1.30 pm .
