11th DGAR Cup draws to a close : Chingkheihunba PC win two team titles on offer

With five of their players making a podium finish in different discipline, Chingkheihunba Polo Club walked away with the champion title of the 11th DG AR Cup State Equestrian Championship, carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 as well as the 5th IGAR (S) Junior Equestrian Championship carrying a similar amount of cash prize in the 11th DG AR Cup, which concluded today.
With the DG of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Ranbir Singh in attendance as the chief guest with President of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association S Buddhachandra Singh, IG AR (S) Major Gen Rajeev Chopra and DC of Imphal West K Radhakumar Singh IAS as president and guests of honour respectively, the four day sports extravaganza came to a colourful close today at Mapal Kangjeibung.
In the Juniors Lance individual, Mrs Rashmi Chopra was given the honour to distribute the prizes to the winner, which went to the winner Leishemba Takkhellambam of Kangleipak PSC, carrying a cash component of Rs 3000, H Chand Singh (2nd prize) of Thangmeiband YPC (Rs 2000) and Kh Thomas (3rd position) of Khurai PC (Rs 1500) while in the show jumping discipline, the prizes went to L Tony (1st position) of Nambul Mapal PC (Rs 3000), S Sarat Singh (2nd position) of Nagamapal YPC (Rs 2000) and N Babullu Singh (3rd position) of Chingkheihunba PC (Rs 1500) .
Next was Mrs Shabnam Singh, who gave away the prizes for show jumping for girls, with the first prize going to Neelu RK of Chingkheihunba Polo Club (Rs 3000), Ashem Romabati (Rs 2000) of ESC and S Sangeeta Devi (3rd position) of IRC (Rs 1500) .
In the senior category, Budhhachandra gave away the prizes to the winners.
The prize for first position in Lance Individual went to L Olendro Singh of Kangleipak PSC (Rs 5000), N Ranjan Singh (second position) of IRC (Rs 4000) and H Jibon Singh (3rd position) of Chingkheihunba PC-C (Rs 3000) .
K Radhakumar gave away the prizes in the Senior Sword Individual with H Sanjit Singh of Chingkheihunba who bagged the top spot receiving a cash component of Rs 3000, O Olendro Singh (2nd position) of Kangleipak PSC (Rs 2000) and M Surjit Singh (3rd position) of MPSC (Rs 1500) .
Major Gen Rajeev Chopra IGAR (S) gave away the prizes for the Show Jumping Individual with Th Ranjit Singh of MPSC-A bagging the top spot and cash prize of Rs 3000, followed by L Mocha Singh (2nd position) of Nambul Mapal PC-B (Rs 2000) and S Jemeson (3rd position) of Khurai PC (Rs 1500) .
The IG also gave away the prizes for the best march past with MPSC bagging the top spot (Rs 3000) followed by Khurai Polo Club (Rs 2000) and Nambul Mapal PC (Rs 1000) .
Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra also gave away the overall championship title for the 5th IGAR (S) Junior Equestrian Championship to Chingkheihunba Polo Club which carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 .
The DGAR, Lt General Ranbir Singh gave the away the prizes in the Senior Lance Team with Chingkheihunba PC-A bagging the first spot (Rs 3000) followed by Eastern Student Club-B (Rs 2000) and Kangleipak PSC (Rs 1500) .
The DGAR also gave away the overall team title for DGAR Cup State Equestrian Championship to Chingkheihunba PC which carries a cash prize of Rs 10000 .
Honours were given at tea time along with a cash of Rs 2000 each to Esther, Guru Ruben, Sumita and Teresa.
Earlier in the day, before the prize distribution function was held, the DGAR Lt General Ranbir Singh was accorded a warm welcome with a traditional Manipuri reception and presentation of Pot Lanba, said a statement issued by the PRO of IG AR (S) .
Speaking at the occasion, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said that the DGAR Cup State Equestrian Championship and IGAR (S) Junior Equestrian Championship is a radiant and eloquent testimony of the enthusiastic zeal of the Assam Rifles to encourage the strong sports culture of Manipur.
"It is also an endeavour to save the rare breed of Manipuri pony from the brink of extinction," said the DG.
The closing ceremony was held in full pomp and splendour but the cynosure of the ceremony were the traditional Manipuri Pung and Dhol Cholom and the exhibition of Sagol Kangjei (traditional Manipuri Polo), which received accolades from the gathering, said the statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) further.
