Kangpokpi Ward No 9 lift Veteran, Main football champions trophies

The 16th Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament 2020 finally came to an end today with Ward No 9 lifting both the Veteran and Main football titles and Ward No 14 Kholmun Veng lifting the maiden Under-13 football champion trophy at Brig M Thomas Ground, Kpi DHQs.
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen, who is also the local MLA graced the occasion as chief guest while ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing and Kangpokpi Town Committee Chairman, Lunseh Kipgen attended as guest of honour and functional president respectively.

Strongly motivated with the enthusiastic participation of the mass, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister, Nemcha Kipgen said that Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament is a platform of unity for the denizens of Kangpokpi.
The Minister further said that as games and sports teaches everyone to work in team by developing a sense of cooperation and building team-spirit," we need to work together in the same way in building our society better and develop" .
Minister Nemcha Kipgen also urged the people of Kangpokpi to render extreme efforts in eradicating the cultivation of poppy in the district and also initiate effective measures to control and do away with drugs in the district.
ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing, stressed on the needs to enhance the condition of the playground with collective efforts while adding that ADC Sadar Hills has been looking after the ground, make the gallery, execute various developmental activities including expansion and recently constructed the pavilion.
He also urged the organizing committee to introduce women's football from the next edition of Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament.
Kangpokpi Ward No 9 lifted both the Veteran and Main football champion trophy and Ward No 14 Kholmun Veng lifted the Under-13 football champion trophy.
In the veteran final match played before the main football final, Ward No 9 Veteran defeated Ward No 1 Veteran by 3-2.Ward No 9 found the opener with an own goal from Paolen in the 1st minute and Satthang added another two goals in the 34th and 38th minutes while Mamang and Paaji of Ward No1 scored in the 32nd and 52nd minutes respectively.
The main football champions were decided via tie break after the match ended 1-1 in the regulation time.
Haopu scored for Ward No 17 in the 27th minute before Seiminlun equalized in the 56th minute.
In the penalty shootout, Ward No 9 won by 4-3 to lift the winners trophy.
The Veteran football champion Ward No 9 received a trophy donated by GUDUP in memory of its friend L Hangshing with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and medals while runners up Ward No1 received a trophy donated by Simon Chongloi in memory of (L) Onkam Chongloi and (L) Lhaingah Chongloi with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and medals.
The main football champions Ward No 9 received a trophy donated by Oracle Computer in memory of (L) Paothang Thiek with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and medals while runners up Ward No17 received a trophy with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and medals.
Under-13 football champions Ward No 14 received a trophy donated by Kailal Khongsai and family in memory of Ngamgaohao Khongsai, who was killed by a speeding tanker last year during the Ward tournament, with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and medals while runners up Ward No 1 received a trophy with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and medals.
Men's volleyball champion Ward No 10 received a trophy with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and medals and runners up Ward No 3 got a trophy with a cash prize of Rs 7,000 and medals while women's volleyball Champions Ward No 8 and runners up Ward No 14 received the same prizes of trophy, cash and medals.
Seingaigun Kipgen, 6 years, of Vengthah Ward No 3 under-13 football team bagged the youngest player award of the tournament while Athang Hmangte of Ward No 12, 60 years, bagged the oldest player award of the tournament.
Thenminlal of Ward No 2 and Satjamang of Vengthah Ward No 3 bagged the best goalkeeper in the veteran and main category while Tonghen Kipgen of Ward No 1 and Paolalngaisang Singsit of Ward No 13 fetched the best player award in the veteran and main category respectively.
Songpu of Ward No 8 earned the top scorer award with 8 goals in his boot in the main category while Ward No 4 bagged the best discipline team award.
Meanwhile, Lhingboineng Kipgen of Ward No 8 and Satminlal Thiek of Ward No 1 bagged the best player in women's and men's volleyball respectively.
Lamkol participated by Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister along with other dignitaries, KTC members, KWWO members, KYU executives, officials of the organizing committees marked the occasion.
