Manipur stormed into both the boys and girls' semi final round in the 12th North East Zone Open Badminton Championship which began at Shillong, Meghalaya today.
Detailing on the performances of State shuttlers, Manipur Badminton Association in a release said RK Cinir won the first singles against Porsuram Joshi of Meghalaya at 21-17, 21-16 to put Manipur 1-0 ahead in the Narang Cup junior boys team event competition.
Cinir later paired Ch Naoba to seal the last four berth with a 21-16, 21-13 victory over the hosts and will now take on Mizoram for a place in the summit round.
In the junior girls' event of the championship being played for the Shafi Quereshi Cup, Manipur rallied to upstage Tripura by two sets to one after Ksh Khelpati lost the opening singles match to her rival at 21-17, 21-13 .
However, Khelpati redeemed herself and the team when she teammed up with L Rebika to defeat their opponents at 21-14, 21-14.S Jennifer, then put the contest out of Tripura's reach winning the second singles match 14-21, 22-20, 25-23 .
