State Level Boxing Championship : Imphal West emerge overall champions yet again

Imphal, July 31 2018: Imphal West district team who have been overall champions since 2001 continued its stellar performances to win the overall team champions title for this year State Level Boxing Championship organised under the aegis of Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena.

Imphal West district team stacked up a total of 19 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals to win the 18th overall team title while Imphal East district raced past Bishnupur district to clinch runners up title with a total 16 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Bishnupur district had to settle for the second runners up title with 16 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze medals.

Surajkumar Okram, MLA Khangabok AC; N Rajendro Singh, vice president, MABA; Kh Premkanta, Environmental Engineer, Manipur Pollution Control Board, M Madhusudon Singh, vice president MABA and Leishangthem Ibomcha Singh, Dronacharya awardee attended the closing ceremony as dignitaries who also handed over prizes to the winners.

Overall team champions, Imphal West District Amateur Boxing Association were honoured with a trophy dedicated in memory of Palungbam Puinabati of Lairikyengbam Leikai who was also a paramedical staff of Imphal East during the felicitation programme of the championship.

Best boxer title for men's category went to M Nilan Meitei (60 kg) of IE while best loser title went to Mangte Loya Singh Kom of Chandel.

M Punsiba of Thoubal (36 kg, sub-junior boys) was named best male promising player of the championship.

E Jasmine of IW (Sr women, 48 kg) bagged the best women boxer title while S Nengneihat Kom of Kangpokpi got the best looser title.

Kh Anju of IW was adjudged best promising women boxer of the championship.

Sub-junior Boys (born 2004) title went M Chungneiring Kom of Churachandpur who edged over Roshan Wahengbam of Senapati in the final while IW's Laishram Edison got better of Mangte Loya Singh Kom of Chandel to claim a gold medal in the Junior Men's 54 kg category.

IE's Sanjarambam Yaiphaba Meitei outlasted RK Sanamacha of Bishnupur (Bpr) in the final to claim the junior men's 57 kg title while Senior Men's 49 kg title went to Hawaibam Bonen Singh of IW who beat Ningkhan Hungyo of Kangpokpi in the final.

Sh Binodchandra Singh of Tamenglong proved his superiority against Kh Sanayaima of IW to fetch the 64 kg senior men's gold.

M Sagar Chanu of Bpr also boxed well against Gloria Karaong of Kangpokpi today to claim the sub-junior girls 40 kg title (born 2006) while sub-junior girls' 48 kg (born 2004) title went to H Gravia of IE who beat M Sarda Devi of Kakching in the final.

RS Thotyola of Ukhrul defeated L Dayabati of IW to claim the Junior Girls' 52 kg gold and Th Sanathoi Chanu of IW was able to secure 57 kg gold edging over Sovi Jajo of Ukhrul in the final.

H Mahe of IW was able to lay her hand on the gold medal beating S Wanglenthoibi of Thoubal in the final bout of senior women's 54 kg competition while Kh Samim Banu of IE outshone S Devikari of Thoubal to claim the senior women's 57 kg title.

K Pravish Chanu of IW also added a gold to her unit beating S Rojita Chanu of IE in the senior women's 60 kg final bout.

M Nilan Meitei of IE clinched the sub-junior boys (born 2004) 60 kg title beating Sana Mate of Kangpokpi in the final bout staged today.

L Amarjit of IW defeated S Arnold of Jiribam and claimed the senior men's 57 kg title.

T Amarjit Singh of Bpr cruised to sub-junior boys' 32 kg competition gold with a win over Md Mujahid of Kakching in the final while Ph Meibrajit of Tengnoupal laid his hand on the gold medal with a win over L Shantikumar of Thoubal in the senior men's 56 kg final.

S Nengneihat Kom of Kangpokpi claimed the senior women's 48 kg title beating E Jasmine Devi of IW in the final match held today.

A total of 218 male boxers and 108 female boxers from across 14 affiliated unit participated in this State level boxing championship.
