Sanasam Ruban Meitei gave Manipur their second medal in gymnastics as Samim Banu Khulakpam booked a quarterfinal berth in boxing in the 36th National Games on Thursday.
Sanasam Ruban finished third in the vault event of the gymnastics competition to claim the bronze medal.
Satyajit Mondal of West Bengal claimed the top podium honours and Siddharth Verma of Uttar Pradesh took the silver medal.
In boxing, Samim Banu Khulakpam overpowered Jyoti of Delhi to reach the quarterfinals where she will meet Poonam of Haryana.
Samim Banu emerged the victor by a comfortable 5-0 verdict.
Poonam too dished out a 5-0 win against her opponent Vinakshi Dhota of Himachal Pradesh.
Manipur's Samim Banu and Haryana's Poonam will square off for the semifinal spot on October 10.In football, the state men's team went down fighting against Kerala on Thursday.
They lost 2-3 to their opponents in the state squad's third match in the group stage.
In their first match, Manipur played out a 1-1 draw with Services Sports Control Board before they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Odisha.
Manipur were placed eighth in medal tally on Day 8 of the National Games as their gold (13) and silver (5) count remained unchanged for two consecutive days while the state's bronze medal tally reached 12.Services Sports Control Board sit atop the medal tally with 41 gold, 29 silver and 26 bronze, followed by Haryana (G-29, S-23, B-20), Maharashtra (G-24, S-24, B-45), Tamil Nadu (G-19, S-20, B-19, Uttar Pradesh (G-18, S-13, B-12), Karnataka (G-17, S-18, B-29), Punjab (G-14, S-22, B-19) and Kerala (G-13, S-15, B-11) .
