28th Governor's Cup Polo Tournament MPSC-A, Chingkheihunba Polo Club sail into semis

MPSC-A and Chingkheihunba Polo Club today registered contrasting wins in their respective quarter final matches to sail into the last 4 round of the 28th Governor's Cup Invitation Polo Tournament 2018 (men's) which is currently underway at Mapal Kangjeibung under the aegis of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association.
In the second quarter final match of the tournament MPSC-A relied on S Abungcha and Th Romen to drub Imphal Riding Polo Club (IRPC) 7-2 .
MPSC-A started the match slowly taking a 2-1 lead in the first chukker.
S Abungcha hit the opener when the game was not even a minute old while Th Romen chipped in the second goal in the 3.59th minute.
L Rohit grabbed the single goal for IRPC in the 5.08th minute.
The second chukker saw both teams evenly poised adding one each to make it 3-2.Omesh Gurung hit the single for IRPC in the 0.59th minute while Th Romen struck his second goal in the 7.28th minute of this chukker.
MPSC-A took a total control of the third chukker as Th Ranjit, Abungcha and S Bimol Singh pumped in one goal each and handed their team a comfortable 6-2 lead.
S Abungcha then took honour to score the last goal in the 5.35th minute of the fourth chukker giving his team the semi-final berth with a 7-2 victory.
In the second quarter final match of the day, Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CHPC) edged out Khurai Polo Club (KPC) by a narrow 8-7 margin.
Though KPC led the first chukker with a 3-1 lead, CHPC were consistent enough through out the four chukkers.
An extra chukker was added on to decide the winners as the game was locked at 7-7 draw at the end of the fourth chukker and it was Th Kaoba who gave the CHPC the much needed goal.
T Roshan opened the account for KPC in the 0.18th minute while L Thomson hammered in two goals in the 1.17th and 4.57th minutes of the first chukker extending the lead to 3-0.CHPC also did not give up easily and it was A Basanta Singh who hit a goal in the 5.37th minute and made the scoreline read 1-3 .
L Kokeshwor of CHPC added another goal in the second chukker and reduced the deficit to just one goal while KPC were unable to register any goal in this chukker.
The third chukker saw, CHPC levelled the score at 5-5 with the goals coming from the sticks of Th Kaoba (1.19' and 3.15') and L Kokeshwor (1.34').T Roshan and L Thomson scored one each for KPC in this chukker.
Both teams scored two goals each in the fourth chukker to make it 7-7 at the end.
For CHPC, it were, Koaba and Kokeshwor while the Roshan and Thomson were at it again making one each to go for an extra chukker.
The two teams made cautious starts in this extra chukker as the winners would advance into the semis and under fortuitous circumstance it was Kaoba who rode deep into rivals half and smashed the ball right on target to break the deadlock and ultimately gave his team a 8-7 win.
MPSC-C will take on X-Polo Club in the last quarter final match of the tournament tomorrow.
