Karateka Babina bags silver in World Championships

Imphal, November 19 2015:
A young State karateka Babina Laiphhrakpam (14 years old) bagged a silver medal (kumite 52kg) in the recently held World Open Karate and Kick-boxing Championships, organised by World Karate and Kick-boxing Union held from October 28 to November 3 at Albir, Spain.
Around 3000 participants from 32 countries took part in the championships.

Babina Laiphhrakpam is the lone karateka from Manipur who represented the 10-member Indian contingent in the championship.
Babina Laiphhrakpam is the sixth daughter of L Babuchand and L (O) Bheigabati Devi of Sagolband Tera Akham Leikai.
India competed in the kumite event and finished the seven-day event with one gold, five silvers and three bronze medals and stood at 19th position.
The other Indian karatekas who won medals are, Ajay Salveru (Hyderabad) who won a gold, Devanand Mopada (Vishakapatnam), GowthamUmro (Hyderabad), Bhubavaneshwari Jadhav (Maharashtra) who claimed silver medals while Jaswant Dagara (Bhubaneshwar), Nagendra (Vishakapatnam) and Vidyasagar Dumpala (Hyderabad) bagged a bronze medal each.
