41st National Masters Athletics Championship Hosts Manipur stay atop with 25 gold medals

Imphal, February 10 2020: Hosts Manipur continued to remain on top of the medal tally at the 41st National Masters Athletics Championship being held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium with 25 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The second day was another great day for the State athletes as they added new 18 gold and 6 silver medals to their tally.

Neighbour, Assam are the closest competitors till day 2 with a collection of 11 gold, 20 silver and 13 bronze medals.

Day 2 events

100 m race

Kh Manichand was the fastest in the 100 m race for 70+ with 14.2 seconds in his name to earn Manipur a gold medal today as Punjab's Aran Singh (15 seconds) and Haryana's Het Ram (15.8 seconds) finished second and third.

Kh Radhe also earned Manipur another gold medal in the women's 75+ 100 m race with a time of 23.4 seconds while Basanti Biswas of West Bengal (24.6 seconds) and Manipur's L Pramodini (25.5 seconds) respectively bagged silver and bronze medals.

Meanwhile in the men's 80+ 100 m event, Assam's' Bhadreswar Phukan (17 sec), Narendranath (17.1 sec) and Haryana's GS Saunkhla (17.8 sec) finish first, second and third respectively.

5 km walk
In the 70+ men's 5 km walk, Jharkhand's Manik Lall Chatterjee (33:25.3), Haryana's Bhim Singh Punia (34:17.4) and Doma Sochafle of Maharashtra (35:04.4) finished first second and third.

Ram Pratap Munda of Jharkhand (34:56.2), Suresh Kumar Gogoi of Assam (35:52.4) and Maharashtra's Eknath Patil (38:33.3) respectively bagged gold, silver and bronze medals in the 75+ men's event.

80+ men's title on the other hand, went to Haryana's Dr Ram Kanwar Sangwan who reached home in 35 minutes 55.6 seconds.

Jharkhand's Narayan Sahu took 46 minutes 9.2 seconds to win the men's 85 + event gold while K Tombi Singh of Manipur finished second with a time of 47 minutes 44 seconds.

5000 m race
Jharkhand's Sangeeta Lakra was able to win the women's 35+ 5000 m race title by taking 26 minutes 3.2 seconds while Assam's Rekha Gogoi won the women's 40+ 5000 m crown as she covered the course in 26 minutes 23.3 seconds.

Bhanu Deka Bordoloi of Assam also earned her State a gold medal in the 45+ 5000 m event with a best time of 26 minutes 50.8 seconds.

K Nalini of Tamil Nadu (50+ women : 28:26.5), Th Bideshini Devi of Manipur (55+ women: 27:38.8), Kusum Grewal of Haryana (60+ women : 31:30.7), Rachel Chatterjee of Jharkhand (65+ women : 29:28.3), Th Ibemhal Devi of Manipur (70+ women : 28:49.5), Virpal Singh of UP (70+ men : 24:58.8), Sapam Manimohan Singh of Manipur (75+ men : 28:57), Biren Medhi of Assam (80+ men : 36:6) and Ch Ramaswamy of AP (85+ men : 45:45.2) also won gold medals in 5000 m race for various age groups.

800 m race
Manipur's Ningombam Sunita also won a gold medal in the women's 35 + 800 m race by surging home in 2 minutes 58.2 seconds while Rakhi Sharma of Haryana (3:6.2) and Sangeeta Lakra of Jharkhand (3:7.6) respectively claimed silver and bronze medals.

Discus Throw
N Ibemhal also added another gold medal to Manipur's tally recording 22.9 m in discus throw event for 50+ women before RK Devajani Devi cleared 14.55 metres to win the 70+ women's gold medal.

S Sunita of Manipur then won the gold medal in the women's 75+ category by managing 14.90 m as M Jamini Devi (11.86 m) and RK Dhanisana Devi (11.81 m) finished second and third.

S Thambal Devi on the other hand bagged a silver medal in the 80+ event finishing second with a 6.8 m clearance before Koijam Mangol cleared 7.81 m to claim the women's 85+ gold.

High Jump
Harish Kumar Tiwari of Manipur bagged a high jump bronze with a 1.45 m effort today in the men's 35+ category.

Javelin
Manipur's Waikhom Ibomcha won a javelin throw silver medal recording 35.67 m in the men's 55+ event as Peipalung Golmei bagged a bronze in the men's 60+ category by registering 33.15 m throw.

Long Jump
Yuhub Ali added a gold medal to Manipur's tally with a leap of 4.72 m in men's 70+ long jump event before A Ibopishak won another gold for the State in the men's 70+ category with a 3.09 m leap.

Th Ibocha on the other hand bagged men's 75+ long jump gold medal with a 3.28 m performance before Sorokhaibam Mani Meitei bagged the 95+ long jump gold with the best leap of 2.67 m .

Shot Put
S Maipaksana also won a silver medal in the men's 50+ shot put event with a throw of 11.79 m .
