60th CC Meet Contrasting wins for FC Zalen, KLASA

FC Zalen, Sadar Hills and KLASA, Keinou moved to the next round of the ongoing 60th Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial football tournament 2016 after defeating their respective opponents today at Mapal Kangjeibung.
In today's first encounter, FC Zalen thrashed YUFC, Ukhrul 5-1 .
FC Zalen managed to tame the Ukhrul outfits right from the start of the match.
It was Patrick Kamei who opened the account of FCZ when he slotted home through a direct kick from near their rivals' penalty area in the 14th minute.
YUFC pushed back to find the equaliser and they succeeded in restoring parity in a span of 17 minutes as Thangsomi latched on a pass from Th Shimray.

However, FC Zalen took another lead in the 34th minute through Paolenlal Khongsai and Patrick Kamei banged in his second in the 39th minute to make it 3-1 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Lallenmang Sitlhou hammered in another goal for FC Zalen in the 49th minute while Ng Bedeenpar Moyon ensured a fine finishing in the second half stoppage time to make it 5-1 .
FC Zalen could have widened the margin had Patrick Kamei converted a spot kick in the 81st minute.
Penalty was awarded in favour of the Sadar Hills side as P Vaiphei of YUFC brought down Ng Bedeenpar in the box.
YUFC custodian made a brilliant save to the spot kick taken by Patrick Kamei.
In the second encounter of the day, Muvanlai Athletic Club (MAC), Sadar Hills lost 4-2 to KLASA, Keinou on penalties.
The evenly contested match ended in a 1-1 draw.
However, MAC lost to KLASA on penalties.
It was Ginminthang Hangshing of MAC who drew the first blood as he slammed home the opener in the 26th minute.
It was an upset for the Keinou outfits as their efforts to equalise the goal went abegging till the end of the first half.
The second half saw the surge of KLASA.
However, they could not easily penetrate the defence line of MAC.
KLASA Lalminthang Touthang unleashed a powerful shot which hit their rival's post in the 76th minute.
However, the bouncing ball hit the back of MAC's John and the ball then found its way to the net of MAC to make the score 1-1 .
As none of the teams could break the deadlock in the normal time, penalty was resorted to decide the match winners.
Even as three of KLASA players found their targets, just one of MAC players could convert the penalty kick.
