Hosts Manipur defeated eight times champion Goa by six runs to nil to wrest the girls title of the 18th Sub Junior National Baseball Championship 2008 at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.
In the boys' competition of the championship organised by Manipur amateur Baseball Association under the aegis of Amateur baseball federation of India the host State settled for the third place edging out Delhi 7-6.The top title was bagged by Goa defeating Orissa 16-0 .
Among the girls, Kalini Kar of Goa was adjudged the best hitter with the best pitcher title bagged by Manipur's I Luxmi as the hosts' Kabita claimed the player of the championship award and Diana N the best catcher honour.
Joynikonal of Orissa was declared the best all-rounder.
The best hitter in the boys' section went to Pratmesh of Goa with Gaurav of delhi and David of Manipur respectively winning the best pitcher and best catcher titles.
The player of the championship award was won by Orissa's Tanmay and the best all-rounder honour by Goa's Sunny.
The closing ceremony was held with MLA Bijoy Koijam as the chief guest while MANITRON Chairman Kh Ratankumar Singh and Director (Transport) Norbert Disinang (IAS) graced the occasion as the president and guest of honour respectively.
