Ch of Imphal Riding Club astride Rocky culled 35 points to bag the top prize in Tent Pegging (Lance) Individual event on the opening day of the 5th Director General Assam Rifles Cup State Equestrian Championship at the Imphal Pologround today.
The second position was secured by Chingkheihunba Polo Club's Th Kaoba (32 points) riding Nongdamba as S Girimohan of MPSC rode Nectar to finish third on 30 points and L Minaketan of Chingkheihunba PC had to content with the fourth place on 27 points.
Riders of MPSC, KRYPSA, Meiraba Polo Club, Imphal Riding Club, Imphal East District Equestrian Association, Chingkheihunba PC and Thangmeiband Youth PC are competing in the championship being jointly organised by Manipur Equestrian Association and the IGAR (S).
Inaugurating the three day competition, IGAR (S) Maj Gen BK Chengapa expressed that the Championship is being organised since 2002 with the sole objective of promoting and encouraging polo and equestrian games and to save the rare and endangered Manipuri pony from extinction.
"The Assam Rifles has been consistently helping the MEA in training players and conducting polo and equestrian events within and outside the State and we shall leave no stone unturned to promote this sport and save the Manipuri pony which is the cultural heritage and legacy of the country and manipur in particular", said the Major General in his address as the chief guest.
The inauguration programme was followed by an exhibition Manipuri polo march, band display by the 39 AR and tent pegging event.
