Imphal, February 24 2014 :
In a contest between the ball and the bat, it was the ball which prevailed and THAU downed PCC by 7 wickets in a low scoring match of the 1st Plate Cricket Tournament underway at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangshangbam today.
On winning the toss, PCC elected to bat first and were bundled out for a paltry 94 runs in 33 overs with only Johnson 27 runs off 31 balls and a painstaking 15 runs off 65 balls from Rohit contributing with the bat.
Keeping a tight line and length, the bowlers of THAU tied down the batsmen of PCC with Sunil leading the way and picking up four valuable wickets.
Pritam also chipped in with a valuable haul of three wickets while Chittaranjan scalped one wicket.
Set a very modest target of 95 runs, THAU did not have much of a problem in reaching the target with Sanjit scoring 34 runs off 53 balls.
With Sanjit setting the stage for the run chase, the other batsmen treated each ball with merit, not going in for the big shots or rash shots.
