KHSC, HWC, YCCIC triumph in 3rd President Gold Cup Hockey

KHSC, Khongman; HWC, Langthabal and YCCIC, Kontha emerged victorious in today's U-14 boys league matches of the 3rd President Gold Cup Hockey for U-14 boys and U-17 girls being organised by Manipur Hockey at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.
KHSC which suffered defeat in their opening match against HWC managed to keep their semi-final hope alive by beating MEIRAA, Bashikhong 3-0 today.
Both the teams drew blank in the opening quarter but Ksh Amarjit put KHSC ahead with a goal in the 12th minute before two more goals were added in the 3rd quarter.
KHSC got the second goal through L Harish in the 18th minute who also grabbed the last goal off a penalty corner in the 26th minute of the match.
HWC on the other hand ensured their place in the semi-final after edging past Bishnupur Hockey (BH) by 6-5 goals in a keenly contested game today.
BH and HWC played out a 1-1 draw in the first quarter before the former had a 4-2 lead at the break.
HWC which were trailing 3-5 till the third quarter make an unexpected return in the last quarter thanks to Bikram effort and finished the game 6-5 .
K Bikram of HWC led the scoring for the team including the opening goal of the match (5', 17', 51', 54') while S Samson and K Sanjit respectively scored in the 43rd and the 49th minute of the match.
Skipper of BH, N Rohit also struck thrice (14', 22', 29') but his effort went in vain as they failed to overcome late charges of the Langthabal team.
S Sanathoi and Th Bikramjit also scored a goal each in the 20th and the 31st minute for the same team.
BH were awarded 4 penalty corners against HWC's 2, but both sides failed to make their effort count.
Meanwhile in the second Pool B league match, YCCIC , Kontha ran riot to see off SEYO, Singjamei with a 8-0 humiliation as Silheiba L, S Rishi and B Basu scored two goals each.
Silheiba L chipped in two back two back goals in the 11th and the 13th minute to set the pace of the game before S Rishi hit his first in the 14th minute to make it 3-0 in the first quarter.
The onslaught continued with Y Rishi scoring in the 25th minute while S Rishi completed his scoring two minutes latter before B Basu fetched his first and made it 6-0 at the end of the two quarters.
As SEYO were hardly resisting, W Rohit fired home the seventh goal in the 34th minute while B Babu rounded off the scoring with his second in the 44th minute.
