IW District Subroto Mukherjee Football tournament begins, Greenland Academy's U-14 team expelled

The 59th edition of the Imphal West District Level Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament of U-14 and U-17 Boys being organised by District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, Imphal West kick-started today at Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak.
5 U-14 teams and 7 U-17 teams are competing in this district level tournament organised on knockout basis.
Due to discrepancies in the documents submitted by Greenland Academy, Paobitek, the academy was disqualified after their first match (U-14 boys competition) against Awang Leikinthabi Junior High School.
Nongchup Imphal Sagoltongba Higher Secondary School will face Little Master English School, Samurou in the first semifinal match of the U-14 Boys competition at 2 pm tomorrow while Awang Leikinthabi Junior High School will lock horns with CT Higher Secondary School in the last semi-final at 3 pm.
U-17 Boy's Competition
The first match of the U-17 Boys competition saw Nilmani English School, Mayang Imphal thrash Model Higher Secondary School by 3-0 goals in a very one sided quarter final match.
M Arundas hit the opener for Nilmani English School in the 14th minute before pick of the day, Ch John struck two goals back to back in the 57th and the 60th minute to complete the 3-0 rout of Model Higher Secondary School and booked the semi-final berth.
In another pre-quarter final match, HRD Academy, Ghari edged out Konjeng Leikai High School by 2-1 goals to advance into the last 4 round.
Both HRD and the Konjeng Leikai side looked evenly poised in the earlier proceedings until Gaijanglung of HRD opened up the scoring in the 33rd minute with a finely crafted shot and put his team ahead with a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Gaivictor of Konjeng Leikai High School fired in the equaliser in the 40th minute.
Poulingkhalung of HRD, however made a fine run in the 59th minute and broke the deadlock to make the scoreline read 2-1 which remained undisturbed till the final whistle.
In the last quarter final match of the competition, CT Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal drubbed Comprehensive Concept School by 4-0 goals.
N Lawrence scored a brace while Borish Wahengbam and Ph Dinesh slotted one goal apiece to hand CT Higher Secondary School an emphatic 4-0 win.
Borish found the breakthrough early in the 5th minute before N Lawrence fired in two goals back to back in the 31 st and the 33rd minute and made it 3-0 till first half.
After the restart, Comprehensive Concept School showed some resilience but it was in the 56th minute that Ph Dinesh scored the last and the fourth goal of the match.
Little Master English Higher Secondary School will play Nilmani English School in the first semi-final match at 7 am tomorrow while HRD Academy will take on CT Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal at 8.30 pm.
