Tennis Academy inaugurated

DONER Secretary UK Sangma today inaugurated a lawn tennis academy at Imphal District Tennis Academy (IDTA) complex, Lamphelpat.
The academy was set up with the financial assistance of Rs 3.21 crore from DONER.
DONER Secretary UK Sangma and State Chief Secretary DS Poonia were the chief guest and president of the inauguration function respectively.
Speaking at the function, UK Sangma expressed hope that the academy would produce many good tennis players who would bring laurels to the country.
IDTA President Th Hemachandra said that the academy now has six tennis courts including newly installed decoturfs and an old clay court.
The academy also has a dormitory of 60 beds and a kitchen.
Saying that an administrative unit would monitor both education and tennis training of the trainees, Hemachandra said that functioning of the unit including payment of salary of the administrative staff would be looked after by IDTA.
IDTA is planning to select young tennis players who are studying in Class IV or V for the first batch soon, he said and added that three coaches would be appointed for the said batch.
The association is also planning to engage some good schools for the education of the academy players.
The co-educational academy would put in effort to provide quality services similar to the facilities provided in other academies.
Regarding fee structure, the President said that it would be fixed in a manner that it is affordable to the general populace of the State.
