National School Games begins

Manipur girls team opened its under-17 football campaign in the 57th National School Games with a 5-0 demolition of Delhi at Khuman Lampak Main stadium today.
Th Romi (25th, 28th), S Jinnia (34th, 35th) and Th Purnima (55th) scored the goals.
In other matches of the age-group, Tamil Nadu overcame Maharashtra 2-1, Goa crushed Punjab 11-0 and Nagaland outplayed Madhya Pradesh 12-0 .
In the under-14 matches, Chandigarh defeated Tamil Nadu 1-0, Maharashtra pipped Punjab 3-2, Mizoram humbled Gujarat 12-0 while Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were tied at 1-1 .
The School Games, which will also have Thang-ta competition for under-19 boys and girls, was inau-gurated by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as the chief guest in the presence of Sports Minister DD Thaisii and Manipur Olympic Association president MLA Bijoy Koijam as the president and guest of honour respectively.
In all student sportspersons from 21 States are taking part at the Games.
