5th Khelo India Youth Games : State boxing team emerge runners up as State's tally reaches 10 medals, State eves post second win in football

Manipur earned three gold medals on Day 7 to take the tally to 10 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze) in the ongoing 5th Khelo India Youth Games being underway at Bhopal.
The day saw three gold and a silver medal coming from the boxers and one silver medal in Gatka.
With Huidrom Griviya , Thongam Kunjarani, Mandengbam Jadumani winning gold, Chinglemba Moirangthem settling for a silver today after Leichombam Lamnganba (54 kg), Leimapokpam Rahul (75 kg) and Melody (63) winning bronze medals, Manipur boxing team emerged runners up.
Huidrom Griviya (54 kg), who settled for a silver in the 5th Youth National Championship 2022, won the gold beating Neeru Khatri of Haryana today in the final bout.

Meanwhile, Thongam Kunjarani (60 kg) who had won a gold medal at the Golden Gloves International Boxing Championship 2022 held in Serbia, got the better of Anjana Thakur of Himachal Pradesh today to seal a gold medal.
She had also won a bronze medal in the Youth World Boxing Championship-2022 held in Spain and is a gold medallist at the 5th Youth National Boxing Championship-2022 .
Mandengbam Jadumani (51 kg) in the meantime clinched the gold medal beating Usman Ansari of Maharashtra in the final bout today.
Jadumani was a gold medallist at the 40th International Golden Glove Championship and was declared best boxer.
He also won a gold medal at the 5th Youth National Boxing Championship held in Chennai and had participated in the 2022 Youth Worlds held in Spain.
Chinglemba Moirangthem (63.5 kg) however settled for a silver medal after going down to Yogeshwar Datt Gour of Madhya Pradesh today.
Notably, Chinglemba was a silver medallist in the Sub-Junior Nationals held in 2019 and participated in Youth Nationals 2022 and Khelo India Games 2022 .
Meanwhile, Ngaseppam Anjelika won Manipur a silver medal in single soti event of Gatka today.
Football : After a 7-0 rout of Bihar in the opening game, Manipur eves extended their winning run to 2 with a 4-1 thrashing of Haryana today.
Bibicha shone with a double (23', 70') as Babita (38') and Romina (stoppage time) .
Manipur were 2-0 ahead with Bibicha and Babita scoring a goal each courtesy assists from Romina before Nikita pulled back a goal for Haryana in the 69th minute.
Bibicha however helped Manipur retain the two goal cushion the next minute before Romina buried home the ball during the stoppage time to make it 4-1 .
Manipur will play West Bengal in the next match on February 6 .
It may be recalled that Khwairakpam Dhanamanjuri had earlier added a silver medal to the State's medal tally in the 500 m sprint canoeing and kayaking event with a time of 2 minutes and 26.40 seconds as Heisnam Premika, Sarangthem Bidyarani and Yurembam Geetu won a bronze medal in the 500 m team sprint (cycling) yesterday.
