World Sports Journalists' Day celebrated

In a bid to promote sporting activities, sports journalists of the state celebrated World Sports Journalists' Day on Friday.
Commemorating the formation of International Sports Press Association during Paris Olympic Games on this day in 1928, the celebration of World Sports Journalists' Day this time was held virtually due to Covid-19 pandemic.
During the virtual celebration, the participants stressed on the role of sports journalism in disseminating and encouraging sport activities that take place across the world.
The participants also lauded the five athletes of the state who will be participating in the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo from July 23 August 8 and wished them success in their respective disciplines.
The event was scheduled to go ahead last year, but was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The five athletes of the state who will be participating in the Summer Olympic Games are six times world champion pugilist MC Mary Kom (Women's Boxing 51kg), former national captain Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam (Women's Hockey), Shanglakpam Nilakanta (Men's Hockey), Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (women's weight lifting 49kg) and Likmabam Sushila Devi (women's Judo 48 kg) .
Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) also extended best wishes to the Olympians of Manipur who will be representing the country and also urged the people to pray for their success In a release, SUK pointed out that the state has been known as the power house of sports in India and the athletes have been creating a space for the state in the world.
It urged the Olympic contingent of the state to work hard and succeed in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
