Imphal, August 31 2021:
SC East Bengal have signed Songpu Singsit from NEROCA FC for the upcoming season.
It is reported that Chennaiyin FC had made a good offer for the 22-year-old midfielder, but the deal did not materialize.
Songpu Singsit had a breakthrough season last year with NEROCA, who finished second from bottom of the table, ahead of the Indian Arrows.
His stellar performances helped him earn the Fans' Choice I League Emerging Player of the Year award.
According to IFTWC, Songpu appeared in 12 matches for NEROCA, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
He played mostly on the left-wing and was one of the best forwards in the league- a claim backed by his statistics.
During every 90 minutes, the Manipuri player dribbled 5.45 times, and made 1.54 progressive runs, while completing at least 0.59 key passes every game.
Additionally, he created a total of 13 goal-scoring opportunities in 12 matches.
Songpu previously played for Muvanlai Athletics Sports Club and signed for NEROCA FC on a three-year deal last year.
Reportedly, Songpu had an existing contract with NEROCA as a result of which the club demanded a transfer fee when Chennaiyin FC approached them.
