'Saambal' play staged

Imphal, December 20 2017:
A play titled "Saambal" penned by Kangjam Padmakumar was shown at the studio of Huyen Lallong Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung today .
IPR Commissioner Radhakumar Kangjam graced the drama-event who was scripted by his own father, Padmakumar and performed by the artistes of Blooming Cultural Academy of Performing Arts, Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai .
Dramatised, design and direction given by Ningombam Jadumani Singh, "Sambal" is the second production of the academy for the year 2017 .
National Filmfare Awardee 2011, Leishangthem Tonthoingambi played the lead cast of the play that was set against the backdrops of a typical Meitei household with a courtyard, verandah and a pool beautified by the blooming of lotus flowers .
The romantic drama contains scenes of Likon Shanaba, one of the oldest recreational games of the State and playing of gramophone records in the olden days.
