Imphal, December 19 2013:
Out of two Andhra Pradesh natives who were nominated to the Dental Council of India (DCI) as Manipur State nominees, one has been cancelled and replaced by Dr Nabachandra of RIMS at the recommendation of the State Government, stated Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing.
Phungzathang was responding to a call attention motion put up by MLA Th Shyamkumar regarding selection of State nominees to DCI from outside the State.
He further clarified that the two Andhra Pradesh natives were selected as State nominees to DCI as a result of their own efforts.
However, DCI has agreed to cancel nomination of one of the two and replace him/her with Dr Nabachandra in the interest of the State.
The State is also lobbying to induct State nominees in the Nursing Council of India, Phungzathang said.
Earlier, Th Shyamkumar asked under which rules non-Manipuris were sent as State nominees in violation of the Dental Act 1948 while there are many Manipuris qualified for the post.
