Imphal, January 13 2013 :
Bar headed geese, locally known as Kangshen which have disappeared about 20 years back from Manipur have been once again sighted in Tangjengpat of Thoubal district.
Usually, it is Nganu Thangongs (Brahminy Shelduck) which are found in great numbers in Tangjengpat but these year Kangshens have also been sighted.
A ccording to a Forest Department official, Kangshens come back to Tangjengpat as a result of the sustained measures to protect and preserve the lake.
Nganu Thangongs in Tangjenpat are being protected by local villagers and the State Biodiversity Board has already declared Tangjengpat as a heritage site.
At present, 60 Nganu Thangongs are seen at the lake which is eight more than last year.
Any one can watch these birds without disturbing them, said the official.
