Seized mosquito coils destroyed

Custom Department destroyed Godzilla mosquito coils worth Rs 13, 37, 400 at Heingang hill today .
The mosquito coils were seized from different locations during October and November of last year .
Speaking to media persons, Superintendent (Disposal) of Custom Department, Th Madhai Singh said that lvfumijvzhi (meperfluthrin), a chemical used in making Godzilla mosquito coil, which is approved only in China has many side effects .
He said that the product is imported from Myanmar without any approval from Central Insecticide Board so it is illegal .
As per Insecticide Act, 1968, the seized and confiscated household insecticide which do not conform to the prescribed standards are to be destroyed in accordance with the laid down procedure, he said .
He added that the seized mosquito coils were destroyed after getting approval from Commissioner of Custom (Preventive), Shillong.
