Man found hung to death
A man was found dead at Yurembam, Imphal West district under Patsoi police station today.
Thokchom Koba (60) of Yurembam Makha Leikai was found hung from a steel tower which supports a power transmission line at a nearby paddy field.
Incidentally, an umbrella was found unfurled over the man's head.
Police have picked up and deposited the corpse at RIMS mortuary.
RPF refutes
The proscribed RPF/PLA, through a press release issued by its department of publicity chief Bangkim, has refuted any connection whatsoever between the outfit and S Kula Mangang s/o late S Babu of B Vengnung, Churachandpur who was reportedly arrested by troops of 7 Assam Rifles on July 10 .
Boycott withdrawn
Yairipok Apunba Nupi Lup has withdrawn the people's boycott of Wangkhem Kendra MLA Keisham Meghachandra today, our correspondent reports.
A decision to this effect was taken during a general body meeting of the lup held at Bishnunaha community hall today after the MLA agreed to hold talks with the people.
Smuggler held
Troops of 24 Assam Rifles apprehended a gold smuggler with 20 gold biscuits worth Rs 83,00,000 at Khudengthabi check post today.
According to a reliable source, the man was heading towards Imphal from Moreh in a Maruti van.
He has been identified as S Subash (29) of Naransena Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district.
JE vaccination
Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination programme of Senapati district will be launched by DC Jacintha Lazarus, who is also the chairman of District Health Mission Society on July 27.District Immunization Officers (Senapati and Sadar Hills) will also be present at the occasion, said a press release.
SMU appeals
Shillong Manipuri Students' Union (SMU) has extended its support to the pro-ILP movement.
SMU demanded the State Government to punish the police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood at the earliest and also release the arrested AMSU executive members.
