onstration programme on Intensified Fish Technology at the DC
complex, Porompat.

Speaking at the occasion, Fishery Director David K
Shimray said Manipur is the second largest fish producing
State in the North East next to Assam.
But at present the
demand outweighs the supply leading to huge imports from
outside the State.
The State produces 32,000 metric tonne of
fishes annually against the demand of 42,000 metric tonnes.
Water resources are found in abundance in the State.
These
resources could be developed for augmenting the production
of fishes, the Director opined.
