Imphal, June 13 2013:
The Coordinating Committee Against the Construction and Establishment of VCI at Kongba Naoroibam Leikai has asked Victory Churches of India to stop building church at the sacred site of Kongba Leithong Lairembi.
Ksh Romesh, convenor of the coordinating committee which was formed by around of 17 local clubs and Meira Paibi groups said that the site where the VCI has started building a church is a part of the sacred site of Kongba Leithong Lairembi listed under the Manipur Historical Monument Act and most revered by the Meitei community.
It is a site where priests and priestesses from the Lainingthou Temple Board performed holy rituals of Shajibu Leikhun Touba and Kongba Leithong Phunba.
Noting that construction of the church has been going on despite repeated appeals to the contrary, the coordinating committee demanded an immediate halt to the construction work.
