Imphal, March 10 2015:
In the backdrop of reports about some persons or agencies visiting schools and establishments and wrongly informing employers and employees that contribution under the EPF and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 is not mandatory for National Pension System (NPS) contributors, the Regional PF Commissioner-I, NER, EPFO has clarified that contribution under EPF&MP Act, 1952 is mandatory for establishments coming under the purview of the Act.
A statement issued by SK Sangma, Regional PF Commissioner-I, NER, said that at present there is no notification or order excluding eligible employees who contribute to NPS from contributing under the Act.
It therefore directed all establishments coming under the purview of the Act to mandatorily deposit the EPF contributions for eligible employees.
Non compliance should attract penalty, interest and other legal provisions providing prosecution of the employers.
