UNLF cadres surrender

On June 7, a cadre of UNLF namely SS Pvt Moirangthem John alias Akongjamba of Nakhalawai in Bishnupur district surrendered to security forces of Red Shield Division along with one .22mm pistol and five rounds, informed PIB (DW) in a statement issued today.
The surrendered cadre, who reportedly joined UNLF in 2007, is said to be the younger brother of SS Capt Moirangthem Raja alias Chingkheinganba alias Meiba of the UPPK, the latter having surrendered to security forces of Red Shield Division on May 18, 2013, according to the statement.
The individual's desire to lead a peaceful life with his family and become a responsible citizen motivated him to surrender and he laid down arms to the Red Shield Division, it added.
Meanwhile, another cadre of UNLF (Army No 1376), SS Cpl Ningthoujam Abung alias Sunder alias Lainingba of Leinaram Terakhongsangbi Maning, under Moirang police station in Bishnupur district also surrendered to security forces (Assam Rifles) of Red Shield Division on June 8 evening.
The surrenderee, who handed over one .22mm pistol with magazines and three rounds, revealed that he joined UNLF outfit in March, 2001 and cited desire for leading a normal life as the motivating factor for coming out, the PIB (DW) statement maintained.
