The programme was jointly organised by Eastern Youth Union Club and Ima Leishen Lup Self-help Group.
Gifts were also distributed to the elders.

CRPF celebrates

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today celebrated its anniversary at the Langjing campus of CRPF Manipur & Nagaland Sector headquarters.
Apart from DIGPs Vimal Kumar Bisht, JN Kohli, Vijay Kumar and Sunit Kumar Rai, other CRPF senior officers and jawans joined the celebration during which DG's Disc and commendation letters were distributed to officers and personnel in recognition of their commendable work in administration as well as operations.
The Best Administration and Best Cost Effectiveness trophy was handed over to the Mantripukhri-based 69 Bn CRPF.
Raised as the Crown Representative Police on July 27, 1939, CRPF came into existence with the enactment of the CRPF Act on December 28, 1949, informed a statement.
USRA warns impostor

Armed outfit USRA today warned a man identified as Paujamuan alias James, who allegedly extorted money in their name, to surrender before the organization on or before 10 January 2014 .
A statement issued by Slash Vaiphei of the outfit said that it is learnt that James has been collecting money in the name of USRA.
Paujamuan has been warned to stop such activities and given a chance to surrender before the organization by January 10, otherwise any action befalling upon him should not be the responsibility of USRA, it added.

A free medical camp was jointly organised by Child Welfare Ashram, Jiribam and 29th Assam Rifles under Hqs 22 Sector at Jinam Ghat, Dima Hasao district Assam yesterday.
Apart from examining and diagnosing a large number of people, medicines were also distributed to the patients.
Moreover, they were given counselling on malaria, TB and HIV by volunteers of CWC, Jiribam.

The Joint Co-ordination Committee (JCC) of All Manipur Municipality Employees and Workers Union (AMME & WU) and Imphal Municipality Employees Union (IMEU) had a joint meeting on December 27 at IMC campus and adopted certain resolutions.
The meeting resolved that a memorandum will be sent to Chandrasekhar, president of All India Municipal Federation and Governor of Manipur for smooth implementation of 6th Pay Commission.
It also resolved that the committee should meet the higher authorities with the help of president, INTUC and Deputy Speaker Preshow Simray after New Year and extend full co-operation from president and secretary of Joint Administrative Committee INTUC and AITUC Imphal.

A combined team of commando unit of District Police, Thoubal and 40 Assam Rifles arrested one cadre of PULF identified Sabir Ahmed (32) alias Item alias Thero s/o Samaruddin of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai from Ushoipokpi area on December 27 around 11.20 am and recovered one 9 mm Carbine machine gun with magazine and four live rounds of 9 mm ammunition from his possession, according to a press statement issued by SP/NAB, Manipur cum PRO, Police Department, Manipur.
JAC calls off stir temporarily

The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organization (AMGEO) has temporarily called off its proposed cease work strike from January 6, 2014 following an assurance given by the Chief Secretary of the State during a meeting held this morning with representatives of the JAC and Pensioners' Union.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary appealed to the representatives to lift their cease work strike and assured that most of the demands made by the JAC will be met in next meeting to be held between the representatives of the JAC and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) .

Japanese art form Butoh finds footing in Manipur

Considered to be a land of dances, yet another dance form referred to as Butoh and originating from Japan, has literally found its place in Manipur with a group of enthusiastic proponents of the dance form familiarising with the intricate movements of Butoh through a workshop held since December 25 at Khongman.
A joint venture of Sharma Arts and Crafts House (SACH) and NACHOM Arts of Contemporary Movement the workshop is an initiative of Surjit Nongmeikapam (Bonbon), a contemporary dancer cum choreographer.
The workshop is being held under the supervision of Butoh instructor namely Agu Tara, said to be among the few Indians practising the Japanese art form.
Briefing the participants about the performing art form, Agu Tara explained that Butoh is a dance form encompassing the wholeness of oneself, involves varied range of techniques and makes the performer feel energetic, internally.

Informed to be first introduced in Japan by Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno soon after the end of World War II, Butoh is said to manifest 'chaos' and destruction caused by the War, rebellion against social constraints and emancipation from suppressed emotions.
Overall it is how one resonates to the things around and deconsecrates from ego and self, she maintained.
On being asked about the response of the participants, Agu Tara said they (participants) are opening up to the new form of art and was satisfied to see their enthusiasm.
The instructor also said she is content with conducting the workshop.
Speaking to The Sangai Express Abo RK, one of the workshop participants, defined his experience as transforming and enlightening.
Expressing that Butoh brings oneself to contemplate and resonate with everything around, he also conveyed that joining workshop makes him find internal peace.
Another participant Chaoba Thiyam, who also happens to be a meditator, pointed out that Butoh is more of a spiritual movement done through following one's subtle and inner feelings, expanded form of meditation and not just a dance form.
Further stating that Butoh is supposedly not confined to stage performance but emphasizes on breaking daily pattern of life and societal norms by sinking into another realm, Chaoba also observed that through this realm one's originality and creativity eventually comes to the fore.
Promising a corruption free Govt...Kejriwal sworn-in as Delhi CM at Ramlila Maidan

Heralding a new era of politics of governance, Arvind Kejriwal took over as the Chief Minister of Delhi promising a corruption-free Government and appealed to parties including Congress and BJP to support his Government.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal today took oath as the seventh Chief Minister of Delhi.
Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kejriwal and six other Ministers at the Ramlila Maidan here.
In a warning to his Ministers and partymen, Kejriwal said they should not get arrogant with power.
"We were born to remove the arrogance of big parties.
We should be wary that no other party has to take birth to dismantle us" .
On the confidence motion on the floor of Delhi Assembly next week, he said his party was not bothered about its fate as "we are not here to grab power.
"Whether we pass or fail in the test of confidence motion...we are ready to face elections, if we fail.
The people will vote us with a huge majority," he said to cheers from a huge crowd at the historic Ramlila Maidan, the fast venue of the campaign for Jan Lokpal Bill initiated by Anna Hazare more than two years ago.
Six Ministers - Manish Sisodia, Somnath Bharti, Rakhi Birla, Satyendra Jain, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Girish Soni - also took oath of office and secrecy at the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Kejriwal visited Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat to pay homage.
In his 20-minute speech, Kejriwal called the day very historic and formation of his Government a "victory of the aam aadmi (common man)" .
"It is not Kejriwal who took oath today but it is the common man...it is the victory of the common man," he said, adding "the road to truth is not easy but full of thorns and we will face all future challenges.
"We are not here to grab power but to give governance back in the hands of people.
Now, 1.5 crore people of Delhi will run the Government," he said.
Delhi has shown the country that politics can be done with honesty.
"We had lost all hope and thought that politics is hooliganism and corruption.
But in Delhi Assembly elections, people have proved that politics can be done with honesty, elections can be fought and won with honesty," he said.
While appealing to people from all political parties including BJP and Congress to support them, Kejriwal referred to BJP's Harshvardhan as an honest man.
"I know Harsh Vardhan personally and can say that he is a good man, but I can't say about his party.
I appeal to Congress, BJP and other parties.
If you feel we are going the right way, forget your parties and support us," he said.
Talking about his mentor Anna Hazare, Kejriwal said, "Anna used to say that politics is dirty.
Two-and-a-half years back, Annaji held a 13-day fast to remove corruption and to get the Janlokpal bill passed.
In these last two years, we did every possible thing.
We fasted, agitated but nothing happened.
Gradually it became clear that without changing country's politics we cannot get rid of corruption" .
"I used to suggest Anna that if we want to clean the system, then we will have to get down in this 'dirty politics'," he said.
Suggesting a unique way of trapping corrupt officials, Kejriwal asked Delhiites that if somebody asks for bribe then not "don't refuse them" .
"Instead, do a 'setting'.
We will give you a phone number within two days, where you can complain about such bureaucrats and we catch them red-handed," he said.
Later at Rajghat, Kejriwal said that corrupt officials "need not worry" and they should start working honestly.
MPCC chief 'advises' Opposition parties

MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has advised Opposition parties which could not send a single representative to the State Assembly to speak some truth if they must criticize Congress party.
Gaikhangam was speaking at the 128th foundation day of Indian National Congress held at Congress Bhavan here today.
Felicitation of veteran former MLAs of Congress party including sitting Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing was one of the features of the foundation day function organised by MPCC.
Gaikhangam claimed that INC is not only one of the oldest political parties in the world but it is also one political party which has been serving the people sincerely.
Saying that a few opposition parties which could not send a single representative to the State Assembly have been indulging in cheap propaganda after a deep slumber, Gaikhangam asserted that the Congress party which is in power both in the State and the Centre should react in time.
At the same time, there is a need to highlight the achievements and performance of the Congress Government.
In parliamentary democracy, it is a convention for opposition parties to criticise the ruling party and they are welcomed to do their duty.
But they must have solid ground or evidence or at least some truth in their propaganda.
If there is a disconnect with the public, no political party can survive, Gaikhangam advised.
Commenting on the poll results of some States declared, specially the party's debacle in Delhi, Gaikhangam attributed the shocking defeat to lack of communication among leaders of the party.
Conceding that it was their folly, Gaikhangam claimed that they have learnt a valuable lesson from the same folly.
He also called upon all Congress men to avoid internal contradictions and conflicts.
Party workers and supporters should inform people about the many people-oriented projects/schemes taken up by the Congress Governments of the Centre and the State.
In addition to the 42 sitting Congress MLAs, some other MLAs have also assured their support to the party in the coming Lok Sabha election, he informed the gathering while calling upon all Congress workers to ensure that there UPA-III Government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha election.
Although many other Congress leaders spoke at the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi could not attend it because his flight from Delhi was delayed due to bad weather.
Moreover, he had to attend an all-party meeting.
Indira seeks BJP ticket

Oinam Indira today formally applied for BJP ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election in Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat.
A large number of her supporters, mostly women, also came to the BJP office as she came to submit her application to the party's office secretary.
Notably, O Indira lost to Chief Minister O Ibobi in the last State Assembly election.
Dr RK Ranjan has already submitted his application for BJP ticket to fight the Lok Sabha election in Inner Manipur while Prof Gangmumei Kamei has applied for BJP ticket in Outer Manipur.
Speaking to media persons after submitting her application, Indira exuded confidence that she would get the BJP ticket for sure.
She said that she would publish a vision document of 52 points ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
Indira's wish-list include separate budget allocation for women exclusive development programmes, creating more employment avenues for youth, raising the number of State's MP seats, making special arrangements for Assembly constituencies of Thoubal district where people can cast votes in Lok Sabha election but cannot contest the same election and establishment of vocational colleges in all districts of Manipur.
SGI team arrives, studies border fencing

A three member team of the Surveyor General of India led by Surveyor Officer KK Das arrived here yesterday and discussed the controversial border fencing along Indo-Myanmar border with Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and representatives of different political parties today.
However, BJP and MPP were not present at the meeting.
Top officials of BRTF were also present at the meeting where border maps agreed to by both the Government of India and Government of Myanmar in October, 1967 were examined.
Whether the ongoing border fencing work should be halted along disputed border lines while carrying on the same work at areas free from controversies/disputes was one agenda of the meeting.
The meeting came to an agreement that the border fencing work should be suspended irrespective of whether it is along disputed lines or along border lines free from disputes.
The meeting came to this agreement after taking due consideration of the newly emerging disputes over three more border pillars within a village settled by Maring tribe.
India and Myanmar have been in a state of disagreement with regard to the position of nine other border pillars since earlier.
It further decided to resume the border fencing work only after settling all disputes with the Government of Myanmar.
To appeal the Government of India to maintain status quo in respect of border fencing and ensure that no Indian territory is compromised in the process of border fencing was another resolution of the meeting.
Political parties which attended the meeting also agreed to forward all the resolutions adopted at the meeting to the Prime Minister, Minister of External Affairs and the Minister of Home Affairs for early settlement of the boundary issue.
12 year old boy, man found dead

A 12 year old boy was found dead near Imphal Barrage, Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai, Imphal West district under Wangoi police station.
Another man was also found dead at Nongbram.
Oinam Sharif alias Muba alias Kondung (12) s/o Dilawar alias Goroba of Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai was found dead inside a thicket on the western bed of Imphal river, just a few metres away from Imphal Barrage at around 1.30 pm today.
The spot where he was found dead is not far from his home.
Injury marks made by a sharp object were seen on the right side of his abdomen and the lower half of his body was naked.
According to information culled from the spot, Sharif went out at around 4.30 pm yesterday.
Since then, he could not be traced.
He was a student of Little Master English Higher Secondary School, Samurou.
Dilawar, who hawks socks at Samurou Keithel, said that they were searching for Sharif since 8.30 pm yesterday.
People of the neighbourhood were looking for him using the PA system fitted on the local Masjid.
"But he was found dead on the river bed very close to our home this afternoon", said the bereaved father.
Sharif's mobile phone was also found switched off.
Together with a team of Wangoi police station, forensic experts have scanned the site where the boy was found dead.
Later police picked up and deposited the corpse at RIMS mortuary following which a case following which a case has been registered.
Meanwhile, a public meeting was held today at Oinam Sawombung in connection with the death of Sharif.
In accordance to a resolution of the meeting, a joint action committee has been constituted.
The JAC, suspecting some foul play, has asked the Government to conduct a thorough investigation and book the culprits by December 31 .
On the other hand, a man was found dead in front of Nongbram Government LP School, Imphal East district under Yairipok police station this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Irom Ingocha (45) s/o late Kulachandra of Yairipok Leirongthel.
He left home on December 25.Injury marks were seen on his face and neck.
After examination by forensic experts, the corpse has been deposited at JNIMS mortuary.

Stating that Nat Sankirtan is an inseparable component of customary events and religious rituals in Manipur, Dr Bijoy said efforts by senior proponents of Nat Sankirtan further enriched cultural heritage of Manipur.
In his presidential address, Videshwor Sharma pledged to initiate requisite official procedures for distribution of pending State level cultural awards.

Mary Kom motivates AR pugilists

Five time world champion and London Olympic boxing bronze medallist MC Mary Kom was reportedly invited to HQs 27 Sector Assam Rifles on December 27 to encourage and motivate the boxers of 27 Sector Assam Rifles.
According to a PIB (DW) release, a large number of civil dignitaries and government officials including Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur and soldiers were present during the function.
In his welcome address, Brigadier Advitya Madan, Commander 27 Sector AR highlighted that sports bind people together irrespective of the caste, creed, religion, colour and race.
He also thanked Mary Kom for motivating sports persons of the sector by providing valuable tips from her experience.
A medical camp was also organized by 1/11 Gorkha Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division at Samulamlan village, the native village of Mary Kom and was inaugurated by her.
The Regimental Medical Officer and a lady gynaecologist provided treatment to the needy people of surrounding villages including women and children.
Mary Kom thanked the Red Shield Division and conveyed her gratitude for the conduct of medical camp at her village and providing her an opportunity to interact with the sports persons of the sector, added the release.
Kangchup Chingkhong Med Dispensary inaugurated

The newly repaired/renovated Medical Dispensary under Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council has been inaugurated today at Kangchup Chingkhong, Sadar Hills.
Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council inaugurated the Dispensary as chief guest in the presence of Lunthang Haokip, EM, in-charge of Veterinary and Dispensary, SHADC and Zilthang Touthang, chairman, Finance Committee, SHADC.
Dedication ceremony of the Medical Dispensary was conducted by Satlam Hangshing, chairman, K Chingkhong Christian Revival Church.
While speaking at the function Haokholal Hangshing pointing out that Kangchup Chingkhong Medical Dispensary is one of the oldest dispensaries in the state expressed confidence that the Dispensary will be a huge relief for the people of the area in many ways.
While lauding efforts of K Chongkhong Village chief Henkhongam Hangshing and the people of Kangchup area for their contribution in repairing the medical centre Haokholal urged the people to ensure safe and smooth functioning of it.
The SHADC chairman also distributed red shawls to village chiefs of Kangchup area and assured to provide requisite materials for upgradation of the Dispensary at the earliest.
Lunthang Haokip and Zilthang Touthang also urged the people of the area for proper maintenance of the dispensary.
Tracing back history of the newly inaugurated dispensary L Hemsat (Retd) ARCS narrated that Kangchup Chingkhong Medical Dispensary was established in the year 1955 and known as Kangchup Chingkhong Civil Dispensary recounted that one Dr Govodhon, the first doctor of the state looked after the dispensary during 1957 to 1959 .
He continued that during that period the dispensary was under Medical Directorate but when District Council came into existence it was transferred under District Council as per relevant Act.
Conveying gratitude to SHADC Chairman, his colleagues and the Chief Executive Officer of SHADC Chongpu Kipgen (MCS) for their contribution and efforts in inaugurating the dispensary Hemsat further urged authority concerned for further infrastructure development of the dispensary.
Apart from SHADC Medical and Vety Dept staff members and local Church leaders, representatives of many civil bodies including Kuki Inpi Twibul (Kangchup) Lhang, Kangchup Area Chief Association, Kangchup Area Tribal Youth Organization and Kangchup Area Women Human Rights were also present at occasion.

Naga Hoho concerned over Karbi Anglong tension

As the ethnic tension heightens in the trouble-torn Karbi Anglong district of Assam neighbouring Nagaland, the Naga Hoho has said that Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi should be in a position to bring the situation to normalcy at the earliest.
Indefinite curfew has been imposed in Chokihola area of Karbi Anglong district of Assam since yesterday.
Yesterday, Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tiger (KPLT) had shot dead four people while attacking a Rengma Naga village.
Rengma Naga Hills Protection Force (RNHPF) retaliated and killed two Karbi militants.
A civilian was also found killed believed to have been caught in the crossfire.
But this report has not been confirmed officially.
Talking to Newmai News Network this evening, Naga Hoho president Chuba Ozukum said an emegency meeting of the Naga Hoho has been called for Sunday to discuss on the development.
Chuba Ozukum then terms the Karbi Anglong district strife as 'very unfortunate' and said the Naga Hoho will officially appeal the Assam chief minister to address the trouble swiftly.
"Tarun Gogoi should be in a position to bring the situation to normalcy," stated the Naga Hoho chief.
It is worth noting here that the Nagas and the people confining in the fringes of Assam are engaging in unending feuds for the past several months.
The Adivasi-Naga tension that was simmering early this year had calmed down now but the tension between the Rengma Nagas and the Karbi community of Assam has re-surfaced after six months.
In the month of June this year Rengma Naga community residing in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam had to flee into Nagaland as the Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KLPT) had intimidated them.
Naga Rengma Hills Protection Force (NRHPF) formed a year ago are operating in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Expressing serious concern over the alleged extreme poor quality of Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex being constructed with the funds from Manipur Development Society, the committee which has been constituted to look after the complex has asked the implementing agency to stop construction with effect from December 27 .
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex Development Committee (WKSCDC) general secretary L Inaomacha said that that some parts of gallery of the sports complex had collapsed at a slight touch while the staircase was developing cracks.
Saying that '3rd Class' bricks were found using in the construction of the sports complex, the general secretary said that all the pillars were also brick pillars.
Expressing serious concern over the extremely poor quality of the complex, Inaomacha said that construction of youth hostel and mini stadium, which have already consumed 4 to 15 years, are yet to be completed.
As the contractor and mohori were not ready to talk over the matter with the committee, the committee asked the workers to stop construction works yesterday.
Saying that the committee wants to take up steps for maintaining quality in the construction of the sports complex in consultation with the contractor and Government officials concerned, Inaomacha said that the committee would launch a campaign with supports from the people of Thoubal district if necessary measures are not taken up within 10 days.
He added that weak portions of the sports complex which may give human casualty in future must be totally dismantled and construct anew.
Saying that workers are given free hand in construction works, Inaomacha said that no engineer and constructor had ever supervised them.
Contractor Suresh Jain of SK Constructions never heeded to the request of committee to maintain quality in the construction of the sports complex.

One day programme on awareness and education on harmful effects of drug abuse and alcoholism was held today at Keirak, according to the statement issued by organising groups, Nehru Yuva Kendra thoubal and Keirak Apunba Nisha Lup.
Kh Robindro Singh, Project Director RDS and Lourembam Orenkumar, Consultant were the resource person.
During the keynote address, Y Laksman Singh, District Youth Coordinator, spoke about the need to empower the youth clubs to prevent any problems of drugs and alcohol which can hamper the society.
Kh Robindro stressed on the importance to fight co operatively against drug abuse and alcoholism among the growing youths.
He spoke the need of the parents to spend a quality time with the children to able to understand their course of lives and help to cope with certain problems.
Orenkumar also spoke on how to solve the problem of drug abuse and alcoholism.
He said the best way to help the youngster get out of such addictions is to keep them busy with work in any small or large scale based industries.
Sarungbam Biren Singh, Theatre Director was the Chief Guest and Thingujam Sanatomba Singh, Pradhan of Keirak Gram Panchayat was the President during the programme.
Seminar on empowering persons with disabilities held

A two-day State level seminar on 'Empowering persons with disabilities: Perspective and Issues' began from today at Manipur Press Club with Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai Devi inaugurating the seminar as the chief guest.
The seminar is a joint initiative of Kolkata-based National Institute for the Orthopaedically Handicapped (NIOH), Department of Social Welfare, Spastic Society of Manipur and All Manipur Handicapped Persons' Welfare Association.
Stating that the Government of Manipur is committed to ensuring betterment of the socio-economic condition of people with disabilities, Minister Mirabai also sought the people's cooperation and suggestion for effective and judicious implementation of welfare projects.
Expressing that parents have to take pro-active role in guiding their differently abled wards be a part of the social change rather than confine them due to physical deformities, she also conveyed that the Social Welfare Department will soon decide on increasing scholarship amount for persons with disabilities.
Affirming that 3 percent job reservation in State Government services for persons with disabilities would be implemented in a judicious manner, Mirabai also declared that along with distribution of certificate to handicapped persons in all the nine districts of Manipur at the earliest possible, efforts would be made to hike financial assistance being provided by the Social Welfare Department to NGOs working for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
speaking at the occasion, Spastic Society of Manipur secretary Laishram Tokendro noted that compared to other parts of the country condition of persons with disabilities is far more better in Manipur.
The fact that inspite of being physically challenged Manipuris regularly taking part in various art and culture activities in addition to excelling in the field of sports and academic indicate that provided an opportunity persons with disabilities of the State are determined to reach new heights.
As president of the inauguration programme NIOH Director Dr Abhishek Biswas exhorting persons with disabilities to strive for excellen- ce in diverse fields reminded that society will eventually respect those who work hard to achieve specific aim in life.
Suggesting that the Central Government launch and implement schemes for the socio-economic upliftment of persons with disabilities, Dr Biswas also observed that whether or not the two-day seminar would be a successful event will depend on the ideas propounded by the resource persons and effective utilisation of the experiences shared by them.
National seminar on food products

A two-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on 'processing and preservation of agro-based food products' hosted by S Kula Women's college, Kongkhampat (Nambol) got underway from today at the College's Indoor Hall.
The seminar is being organised in collaboration with SANA, a food production firm.
Inauguration programme of the seminar was held with Dean of School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MU) Prof m Dhaneshwar Singh and governing Body chairman of the host College ng Naba Singh as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Additional Director (Univ & Hr Edn) Dr RK Yaiskul Singh, former Principal of S Kula Women's College Dr L Birendrakumar Singh, SANA proprietor T Sanajaoba Singh and the College Governing Body secretary S Budhachandra also attended the programme as the guests

UCM donates relief materials to Tuinuphai villagers

The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has today donated relief materials to villagers of Tuinuphai who were made to abandon their homesteads and forced to celebrate Christmas in a relief camp, following a reported tussle for the chieftainship.
With a message of love and peace, the UCM team comprising of its President and General Secretary handed over the relief materials to villagers at Zogal Hall, their temporary shelter since the past week at around 2pm.The relief materials include 7 bags of rice, 2 bags each of Dal, Potato and Onion, besides a bag of salt and a tin of Oil.

Womenfolk in the relief camp said they have celebrated Christmas by holding fellowship inside the hall that double up as home and cooked in an adjoining private campus.
Village elders continued to maintain before the UCM's accompanying media team that the chief of Tuinuphai village is one Tongkhogin Tungdim, a man who had been reigning in the village for decades.
They also claimed that there are no pending cases with the court of law as far as the village chieftainship is concerned.
'We have won on two counts and there are no pending cases,' said one Jamlal.

State lass Vitesori Waribam has won 1st Runner Up and Miss Photogenic titles in Miss Luit 2013 contest held in Guwahati on December 18 .
Vitesori is currently pursuing a fashion course at Department of Fashion of Gyanand's Beauty Academy, Thangmeiband.
Gyanand's Beauty Academy Managing Director Bhomechand Khaba said that 20 constenstants participated in the competition.

He added that another student of the institute Redymenan Yumnam won Best Traditional Model title in the Mr North East 2013 contest held in Guwahati.
Redymenan is also the title winner of the State Man Hunt 2013, he said.
Bhomechand further said that another student of the institute Kumkum Serto won Miss Orange Queen 2013 title.
176 recruits

The Border Security Force (BSF), primarily meant to secure the country's frontier is growing by 176 border men as they took ceremonial oath and formally dedicated themselves to serve the Nation in peace and war at the Border sentinel's subsidiary training, here, at Mualkoi village.
Inspector General of the force's FTR Hqtrs AC Thapliyal graced the ceremony and reviewed the colorful attestation parade that began at 9am on the STC ground.
The IG while exhorting the newly inducted border men said the skills acquired by the recruits during the entire 9 months of training will prepare them for the job whether in guarding the frontiers or in fighting the menace of terrorism, Maoism or insurgency.
Equipped to train regular recruits, pre-promotional courses and other specialized courses the STC/BSF at Mualkoi has since its establishment trained over 41,069 recruits including those from various State armed forces in 211 batches.
