The 60th Independence Day was celebrated in Thanlon sub-division in consonance with the culmination of three weeks of sports and cultural extravaganza, informed a PIB (DW) statement adding that the local army unit and 3 Rajputana Rifles provided all support thereby making the event a grand success.
Over 30 village chiefs, 1500 cheering crowd and 11 contingents took part in the Independence Day celebration, it mentioned.
The Independence Day was also celebrated at Karang Junior High School and Mahindra English Medium School of Karang village, the main features of which were hoisting of the tricolour, march past, recitation and blind hit competition.
The event was participated by 250 students, 14 teachers, 35 meira paibis and hundreds of fishermen of Karang who paid their tribute to the tricolour, said the PIB (DW) release.
