Baite to lead VPC again

Thumping his closest opponent by a margin of 16 votes, the current president of Vaiphei People's Council (VPC) Khatkhotong Baite was today re-elected to lead the Council for the third consecutive term at Kangvai village following a day-long poll .
Three election commissioners presided over the voting exercise which began from 7 am till 2 pm .
A total of 504 votes out of the 818 eligible votes including village chiefs, officers, tribe leaders, and CSOs within and outside the State exercised their franchise at the peaceful but highly contested race .
Baite who secured 224 votes, was trailed by Hauneilal with 208 and Zamthang Baite 72.The vice presidential post, however, was commanded by the Khatkhotong group as his vice presidential nominee, Lunkhomang secured an overwhelming 255 votes to outstrip Lalzakhai and Ngulzathang, who both manages to secure just a little over hundred votes each .
Baite who is at the helm of leading the Vaiphei tribe since 2011, will have to pick other members for the cabinet.
