Zomi Council Chairman elected

The Zomi Council has elected John K Ngaihte to head the common platform of nine cognate tribes for the next three years, during an election held at ZC complex, New Lamka, today.
Ngaihte was followed by G Vungsuanthang with 24 votes to secure the job, which was until today looked after by the president of Simte Tribe Council, B Dongzalian after it witnessed a back-to-back relinquishment at the height of the 3 Bills impasse.
Today's election was held under the supervision of a 3-member Election Commission headed by Goukhomang Simte.
D Khuala Vaiphei and K Vungzamawi are the other members.
110 voters, including Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, Singngat MLA, GS Haupu and Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte also caste their votes during the poll.
