Imphal, October 30 2014 :
Foot patrolling team of Nongpok Sekmai police led by Havildar Yumnam James Meitei of 5th IRB rescued a Scops owl from some young boys and handed the same to PFA Thoubal.
Owl is illegally caught and sacrificed by godman during auspicious occasions like Diwali in various parts of the country.
People superstitiously approached godmen who claim to know black magic.
Owl species like Scops Owl which has a false ear (extension of feather on the head) is a major victim of this illegal practice.
People are requested to inform PFA if such act is practised in the State, a statement issued by PFA said.
In another incident, one young boy, Yohenba Langpoklakpam of Nongmeibung handed over a heron to PFA.
He found it near his house.
