Imphal, February 22 2013:
Despite the relatively peaceful ambience prevailing in the district during the last two days of VDF general strike, normal life in the district is beginning to feel the pinch from early today with the district VDF personnel announcing that the bandh relaxation for the Zomi Nam Ni celebration is over.
All shops in the township began to down their shutters at around 8 am as the VDF announced their intention to intensify the stir and instructed vehicles to stay off the roads.
The local police have intensified patrolling and they were seen stationed at various vital locations along the road as some cases of violence were reported early in the day.
At least three vehicles were reportedly damaged by the striking VDF personnel at different locations while some 10 of them are understood to have been arrested by the police.
The police have however refused to divulge details of the damage and arrest made.
