As per the directive of ECI to check the storage and sale of liquor ahead of the State Assembly election, Jiribam police and Excise Department jointly took out a liquor drive today and seized large quantities of India made foreign liquor and country made liquor.
The team also collected a fine of Rs 6500 from vendors who were caught selling liqour.
The liqour drive will continue till the Assembly elections, Jiribam PS OC Ng Yaiskul Singh said.
The seized liquors were destroyed by the team at Jiribam Excise Department today in the presence of Ng Yaiskul Singh and Jiribam Excise SI S Birendra Kumar Singh.
Similar drives were also conducted at Swombung Kabui Khunou and Longmai Noney area by the respective police stations.
Around 250 country liquor were seized from Swombung Kabui Khunou by a team of Lamlai police led by SDPO Moirangmayum Bishorjit and SI Umananda.
Noney police team, in the meantime, were able to seize 100 litres of country liquor and 3kgs of Hamei during the drive that was conducted yesterday.
