E Sonamani named for Jnangarima Manad Alankaran award

The Jnanpith Jury Board has unanimously decided to confer the Jnangarima Manad Alankaran 2017 to noted Manipuri literateur Elangbam Sonamani Singh .
The decision was arrived at a meeting which was chaired by Jnanpith Laureate Prof Kedarnath Singh.
The other members of the board were Moortidevi laureate Dr Vishwanath Tripathi and senior media personality and author Madhusudan Anand .
According to a press release from Bharatiya Jnanpith, E Sonamani has enriched Manipuri language with his adept, multifaceted creations through novels, short stories, poetry, translations and Khand Kavyas .
His creations reflect the socio-cultural milieu and capture the changing times through the prism of our rich values.
He has authored more than 40 books and is a doyen of the Manipuri literary and socio-cultural fraternity .
Recipient of many prestigious awards that include Manipur State Kala Akademi, Central Sahitya Akademi, Translation Award of Central Sahitya Akademi, Thoibi Award, Sonamani Singh is a writer of unique excellence, it acknowledged .
The winning author, under the scheme, will receive a monthly honorarium for next one year for his literary endeavours and will also be felicitated by Jnanpith with a Saraswati Murti, citation and a shawl.
