Imphal, August 09, 2014:
A training programme neonatal resuscitation was held today at JNIMS Lecture Hall exclusively for the MBBS final year students of JNIMS.
The training programme was jointly organised by the Paediatrics Association of Manipur, NNF Manipur State Branch and TNAT Manipur State Branch.
Speaking at the training progamme State Academic Coordinator Dr L Basanta said that children born with breathing difficulties may die if proper treatment is not given within a minute or their brains may get damaged due to insufficient oxygen supply to brain.
Children born with breathing difficulties should be given proper treatment immediately after the 'golden minute'.
Generally, 10 out of 100 children are born with breathing difficulties.
Premature delivery, pregnancy at young age or advanced age are some of the factors responsible for delivering children with breathing difficulties, Dr Basanta said.
Training programmes have been held in different health institutions apart imparting training to nurses, para medical staff and MBBS students under the Neonatal Resuscitation Programme, also known as the First Golden Minute Project, he added.
