The Maram Students' Union (MKS) has urged its federating units, village authorities, women associations and churches to act locally and prohibit activities that may lead to dwindling of natural resources.
In a press release MKS said that frequent occurrence of fire in forest areas have become a matter of grave concern.
It said that some people intentionally set forest on fire to entrap wild animals and clean bushes for cultivation.
Various pockets which grow pine trees along NH-2 have become vulnerable to careless acts of indiscriminate fire, it added.
The press release further said that MKS has been giving awareness to the people regarding environmental impacts of burning forest, using poisonous substances and chemicals in streams and rivers.
MKS has been carrying forward the 'Go Green campaign' since 2009 as part of combating climate change by conducting annual saplings plantation drives, the press release added.
