Imphal, July 22 2013:
Councillors and staff of Nambol Municipal Council (NMC) and members of Ward Development Committees today staged a sit-in-protest against monetary demand slapped to the Council by different underground organisations.
NMC Chairperson H Somorendra said that the Council is one of the most financially weak Councils of the State.
It is hard to manage the Council with the meagre income collected from the shops of Nambol market, the Chairperson said and adding that a Ward gets around Rs 2 lakh when distributed with the one time yearly grant-in-aid provided by the Government.
The said amount has already been utilised in the construction of shops, crematorium and public toilets by transferring the fund to the respective accounts of Ward Committees, he added.
He also appealed to different underground outfits not to disturb the management of the Council and withdraw all monetary demands.
