Imphal, December 12 2017:
The Aimol Tribe Union (ATU) has alleged that some armed persons have been threatening the search committee constituted to elect leaders of Aimol tribe to get their chosen men elected .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here yesterday, ATU president RT Akhel Aimol said that an annual meeting was already scheduled tomorrow at Kombirei village located about 2 Kms East of Pallel where leaders of Aimol tribe would be elected.
However, some cadres of NSCN-IM have been threatening the search committee to elect persons chosen or favoured by them.
As there is a strong possibility about eruption of violence, the annual meeting scheduled tomorrow has been banned, Akhel Aimol said .
In case the annual meeting is held despite the ban, NSCN-IM, Chingnungkhut village, Kombirei village, Satu village and Khunyai village should be held accountable for any untoward incident resulting thereof .
NSCN-IM's alleged undue interference is a direct attempt to impose their diktats rather than letting Aimol people live according to their free will, he added.
