Imphal, November 06 2011:
Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FRIENDS) has cautioned against inclusion of migrant workers in the voters' list without proper verification of domicile certificate as well as in issuing domicile certificate in view of the upcoming election to the state Assembly.
In a statement, Secretary Publicity o FRIENDS Wahengbam Shanta Meetei observed that the influx of migrant workers should be stopped so as to save Manipur from becoming another Tripura where outsiders have taken over the native population in every sphere.
The government should understand that there are many ethnic groups in Manipur whose population are even less than 500.To save these ethnic groups from extinction, the government should introduce Inner Line Permit system to check influx of outsiders at once, Shanta demanded, while warning of publishing the names of aspiring candidates if any of them were found trying to include migrant workers in the voters' list.
