Madrasa Union draws govt's attention

Imphal, June 09 2013:
Union of Madrasas Selected Under Modernization Manipur (UMSUM) has drawn the attention of the State government towards preserving the traditional nature of Madrasas in the State.
A release of the Union said that 30 Madrasas have been chosen for modernization scheme with an aim to impart both religious and general education.
However, non-payment of incentives and salaries for the teachers of Madrasas has caused serious setback in the modernization scheme.
The Union further said that the modernization scheme should not be handed over to any department without the knowledge of Islamic religion, and also urged the authorities concerned to stop fund diversion of Rs.343 lakhs from the allocated amount of Rs.500 lakhs meant for the modernization of Madrasas in the State.
It also demanded the authorities concerned to give a positive response on or before June 15 regarding the matter.
